I am in the market for a DSLR this summer and I am looking for opinions. The 1D is attractive because of its full frame and pro build. The 10D because of 6 mp and price. The price of the 1D continues to become more attractive, and should become more so after the Mark II comes to market. I shoot mostly Nature and Landscapes, I also end up shooting some stuff from airplanes, through the glass. I own a Canon Powershot G2 right now, and have been continuously impressed with the photos I've taken with that little camera. My experience with the G2 has me wanting to continue with a DSLR.
Eos 3, 28-105 f/3.5-4.5 II, 80-200 f/2.8L, 300 f/4L, Powershot G2.

The 1D is NOT full frame FYI,.. it does though have a larger sensor than the 10D (1.3X Vs. 1.6X "crop factor" )

The 1D despite its smaller pixel count is a totally different ball game compared to the 10D.

You may want to get one in your hands before deciding,. it is much heavier.

I do not think the 1D losses much if anything to the 10D's larger 6MP sensor as far as image quality is concerned. Many in fact feel the 1D images are better. ( I like the 10D just fine :) )

But the 1D advantages are many... particularly for certain applications.

It's fram rate being the biggest,. and also better AF speed.

The fact is the 1D is a speed demon,. it is designed for capturing fast paced sports etc.

If Landscape is your main focus,. many of the 1D fetures will be of little use to you. And there particularly you may benifit from the 10D's extra 2 MP

The 1D is a good camera and does offer a lot. The sensor is not full frame, but 28mm would give the equivalent of 36mm on the 1D and 44mm on the 10D.

The 1D has environmental seals, it can be used in the rain if you have sealed lenses (like the 70-200L and 24-70L IIRC).

I bought a 10D instead of a 1D for one reason - price.

Buy a 10D and a 100-400L with the cash you save.

The 1D isn't in production now and new ones are very few and far between. The crop is 1.3 versus the 10D's 1.6 which is an advantage when you use WA lenses. You have less post-processing with a 1D but not a lot of elbow-room for cropping.

The 1D suffers far less from blow-outs than the 10D, but it is worse at high ISO's in low-light situations. The AF of the 1D is pretty much bullet-proof and for action shots youo would get more 'keepers'.

Each has its place and they are quite different beasts (I have both). For what you have described as your intended use I would suggest the 10D is a better choice. If you have very deep pockets, then the 1D MK-II looks to be the answer.

By the time summer comes around there may be a replacement for the 10D anyway. I would look at what is available closer to the time.
