Thanx, Athena, actually I am that subject)
Zilly, yeah offcourse it's pretty simple actually - firs of all I processed myself - curves, levels, deleted all that unneeded. Then I took the nature photo, tweeked it in transform-warp. Than for a example I took white sheet suspended it as if it was in my hands and just copied all the shadows with burn tool. That's pretty much it, hope I could help)

I use a cable release and a mirror. ;) a bit low-tech, but effective.

okay - I have restrained long enough - I must know the story of your avatar now. ??

Well, let's see first of all it wasn't supposed to be an avatar. The thing is I bought a mechanical cinema camera, that was produced in 1971. So I wanted to show it off and the my new gogles so I mde this shot http://pics.livejournal.com/white_marten/pic/00012gth while working on it I accidentaly selected part of picture by magic wand and saw that the result was pretty interesting, so I made it stamp style. That's it...Have I satisfied your curiosity)))
