Two images from our train ride on the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad, Sept. 27, 2006. This train runs along the New Mexico - Colorado border - I think we were in New Mexico when I took both these pictures. We hit perfect weather, and a great time for the turning of the Aspens.

Great mountain scenes. You might want to try a little levels adjustments. Just a suggestion.

Good view you have captured in the 1st one Harold but the picture has been spoiled by compression i think.

Thanks Andy and Dimitri for your comments. I did boost the color saturation of the first image, which helped it a bit. The original certainly looks like if has a bit of blueish "haze", which cuts down the clarity of the image. Part of the problem was my own fault - I didn't have a sunshade, and I was shooting south with the Sun high in the sky. It also looks to me like there was a bit of natural haze in the distant mountain. At any rate, I agree that it would have been nice to see a clear shot of this scene. Andy, I only have PictureWindows Pro - I should explore my possiblities for processing with it with more care.

As anyone who has taken photos at these altitudes can tell you, there is almost always a haze. Lots of UV up in these parts of the Rockies. Sometimes you just have to take the shots knowing they will be less than perfect. Sometimes a polarizer helps, but depends on the angle of the sun. Still these are great shots.
Thanks
Steve
