Memory Evolution: Survival of the Smallest
===============================
..."In the long term, two memory formats will survive, Memory Stick and SD," said Nelson Chan, senior vice president for SanDisk, the only company licensed to make and sell every flash memory format, which includes MultiMediaCard, SmartMedia and xD-Picture Card.
...Several mini hard drives, measuring as little as one cubic inch, are available for less than $100 wholesale from companies like Cornice, Hitachi Global Storage Technologies and RioSpring.

Don't you hate those press releases created by marketing departments? Don't you think they might have a biased opinion?
You have to read it backwards and forwards to get the hidden meaning. What is important is what they did not state. They didn't mention ordinary Compact Flash.

Bottom line,. the smaller they make these postage stamp sized and smaller cards,. the less effective and usefull they will be for a pro Photorapher...
....there is such a thing as "too small" when you are talking about a device that can cost as much as $800.00 and needs to be handled in a hurry on a job.
Quite frankly,. Smart Media was allready "too small" to be confortable to hold while working.
You can take my 21 ounce framing hammer and shrink it down so it will be lighter, easier to carry, less expensive to make, and allow me to pack more of them in my tool box... but will I be able to use it to drive a 16 penny framing nail?

I've never tried to drive a 16 penny framing nail with one of my Compact Flash cards, but I guess I can always try.

I dont know about you guys. but I prefer compact flash vs anything else. the newer flash cards are getting to small. I dont feel like fishing through my bag for a card less than the size of a quarter.
the XD and SD cards are just way to small for me.

"one cubic inch"? I have not come across such devices. Are they some sort of Microdrive RAID stack?

I wouldn't give anything written it the NY Times much merit.
