Good for what?

The B&W in the second shot looks good if you're going for an older B&W feel; circa 1955. The dolls and the B&W give me an old picture feel. So in this case the B&W is very very good.

Good from the point of something pleasing and knowing I can learn to choose which photos I can use in black and white that keep a good contrast and "feel to them.

i think matreshka is good in colors. i second a point on monochrome toy from our childhood - little truck or steamtrain or teddybear. something that wouldnt loose its meaning without colour.
and dont stop trying. b&w photo worth it.
