Wow, nice transformations! I see what you guys are talking about and even though the changes were small it made a big difference. Becky N. Flywing, and Billbo911 that is awsome how you guys can take items like that out the picture. I had so many pictures like that, that I trashed. Lately I been keeping all my pics to learn how to do editing like that.
It's probably not a great place to ask, but how do you do it? Just give my a quick couple words atleast to get my foot in the door. I love to work hands on and I am a quick learner! Just give me an inch and from there I can explore which I also love to do. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the kind comments:D .
I am, for the most part, self taught on CS2. When I did the fix on this photo, I really didn't know much about the normal processes to fix things like this, ie. Clone Stamp, Healing Brush etc. So, I just did what I thought would be the "normal" way to do things, copy and paste. The difficult part was trying to copy areas of the water that looked like they would match up with what I felt should be behind the subject I was removing. One thing I learned quickly was how to select regions with irregular edges. I also figured out that every copy and paste wanted to be on it's own layer. Lastly, once all of the area was covered, I went back and used the Smudge tool to blend edges that were still visible.
This is NOT the best process to do this, but as you can see, it turned out well. I wish I could post the full res. version here, it is pretty amazing to see just how well it turned out, even at 200%.

I use Paint Shop Pro X and used mostly the clone brush playing with the levels of hardness and opasity. One thing I have learned is do small steps at a time releasing your mouse button so when you use your favorite command "undo" you don't have to redo a huge area. Just dive in, play, have fun, and see what happens.

I have CS2 and a few other programs, but I use to copy and paste to and it was difficult finding areas to fit and match but it worked! That why I asked to find a less time consuming method. I never use to the Smudge Tool so I got to keep that in mind! Thanks!

I tried the Clone Stamp and it is awsome. I hear you on the small steps...I most have read your post fast, becuase I went stirght to work and learned the hard way. I came back and reread it and was like Homer DUH! Thanks!

I always used tools in different programs but never knew the actual job they were intended for. Not until recently I started paying more attention and actually doing some PS'ing. I saw your picture and remembered I had one similar and wanted to try it out. Thanks for the idea!
I do appreciate everyones help! Here is my first try at this. It's kind of funny now, becuase when I was out today I was thinking of pictures I could take with mistakes in them so that I could try to fix them at home...ha!

Good first try, you even avoided the dreaded smudge line that can happen when cloning out thin lines like grass. Hey, digi film is cheep, no harm in taking pictures for the practice. I know we do.

Nice, you do hair much better than I have. Did you think about taking the original background and apply a glausian blur? Just a thought, as I'm always playing with variations before deciding on a final end product.

I can tell you that I have had no greater pleasure with photo editing than I did with the Katrina pics I was asked to fix. Most of my editing is for fun for myself but when you work on someone else's memories that they think are gone and bring them back to life...there is no greater feeling. It definitely makes this type work much more meaningful. Thanks again.

I agree - sensational effort.
I've done a tiny bit of resoration work for a family friend once (nothing too difficult, just removing pen marks, scratches, creases etc) - abosolutely nowhere near the complexity of this one!
Awesome job.
Only thing which sticks out to me is that the skin on the little girls legs looks a little too white to me, I'd burn them in a little more? (compare them to say her arms, bit of a difference)

Hey there strnge, I just selected the whole car and copied it as a new layer then applied some motion blur to the original layer. After that the wheels still didn't look quite right so i made new layers from them also and applied a small amount of radial blur to them.
Oh yeah i also had to erase the areas on the car layer where you could see through the windows.

Probably his under aged daughter. Are there legal issues here? Public event with no expectation of privacy, but you have altered the reality of the image portraying her as a model of lingerie or swimwear so technically.....
On the other side, I like the edit, I just would have smoothed her out a little and bumped up the impact in some places.
