The December issue is now in the mail, needless to say I'm very pleased the Rockettes made the cover. This shot was not our first choice but due to the address block (not shown) we had to go to this image.

I'm pretty excited on this issue because the magazine at first was not real interested in covering the Rockettes, it is exciting to get a cover shot and it be the type of photography I enjoy most.

So here you go...

I was also surprised to see a spread done, they enjoyed the shot that they added this once they saw the images.

This issue had the most shots to date of any I've taken, I've updated my published section on my site with many more shots.

Enjoy.

Well, now...this is just absolutely Great Taygull,

The ultimate photo shoot has to be the centerfold, cover and some more, through out the periodical...

You took on what turned out to be a gigantic task and executed it in a timely fashion, giving them a chance to run with all the gusto...Everybody is a winner on this one...

What will you do for an encode? Maybe next year they will fill your calendar for every holiday and every weekend...

I wouldn't sign off on an exclusive if they don't fill your calendar with work...a bonus program should be in the works...and also a commission for increased sales of publication...Like a performance over ride, too...

Again Taygull,

Very very awesome,

John

Thanks Guys!

I appreciate all the find words....I have yet to actually see the magazine, that comes tomorrow.

With respect to what is next...well I did my first official paying bridal shoot today. My chimping showed I think I got some fantastic shots...I'll post a couple tonight or in the morning as long as you don't let the groom know!

Thanks again!

Thanks for the preview of the Frisco Style Magazine...

It will be interesting to see if what you chimped and what you post or consider to be best of the "shoot" is the same...

I got a nice call today from the assistant choreographer for the Dallas production. He told me the sample shots I sent to the PR lady are posted on the board in the dressing rooms. The staff loves them and he wanted to know if he could get a cd of some of the prints for personal use. Since they are somewhat property of the magazine I did need to check with them.

We have agreed to make several copies of the CD with us retaining rights. They will be able to use them for personal use only. As well a cd will be given to the producer in the event they can use some of the shots for future promo work then they will call me to negotiate a price.

Lastly I will be taking them several of the magazines and they will be providing back to me 2 issues with the entire cast signing the cover. I am pretty excited to be able to add the signed copy to a place where we have started framing a few select prints in our home.

AWesome. Your becoming a celebrity on us :D

Keep us updated and please keep sharing tips you gain from this on how to "present" to get others interest, protect one's rights, leverage one's accomplishments and recognition, etc.

Will you give the ladies your business cards? Might as well...it's easier to get more copies from you directly if it will be OK with the mag...

On another photo topic:
(Taygull, I might be able to take pictures of Ronnie Milsap, tomorrow night from my front row seat...Will know in the morning if camera's are OK...(He's got 30 # 1 hits under his belt, and it will be great to see him) We are getting a 30 degree temperature drop tomorrow night with rain and winds gusting to 50 mph...Hopefully he'll still draw a crowd...)

Congratulations on completing this Major X-Mas task...

Taygull,

Could you share what the mag paid you for the photos, ie. give us an idea of what quality and coverage of something like this is worth, to further inspire or "sober up" those who have an idea of coverage they want to pitch like you did.

Even if they paid me a stated fee I doubt I'd be willing to share that. I am the staff photographer for the magazine so I am full time with a salary. I also manage a few accounts and will help on some of the design if needed.

The biggest reason "artist" are not successful is they don't know how to sell the product they offer. It could be photo's, music, or anything. I am proof that you don't have to be the best photographer in the world to make very good money. What you must be is a good business person.

If you really want to know what I do for a living.....I'm a salesman.......just so happens that part of what I sell is my photography.

That is a good question, give me a couple of days and maybe I can start something in the business thread........

The biggest tip I can give is that it really is not about the photography....it is about selling yourself.

how about this to help focus things. how about talking about how you landed the staff photographer gig.

What did ou did, said or how you said it to convince the mag that they needed a staff photographer and that you were the one to go with and you and what you do would justify the position/salary, etc?
