I would have loved image #2 ... if a reflector had been used, at a 45º angle, to bounce light into her face. As it is ... I love how it makes her hair look.

I really like the 2nd. I really like backlighting. Maybe some more fill for the face would make this VERY nice.

Ryan may I ask how you did that? I have another shot of her with the book open and it shines a nice light on her face, but the photo itself isn't as cute.

Take the image into PS. Duplicate the layer. Apply manual curves and manual levels until skin looks right to the duplicate layer. Create layer mask for the duplicate and paint back the properly exposed areas of the original. Use black brush with 30% flow and opacity.
