are you "shooting" <har har har> with the lens reversed or are you using tubes/tc?

Forgive my ignorance but I'm still real new to the DSLR thing so I don't know what those things are. I didn't do anything but play with lighting and different focal lengths and use the macro setting. :D

don't know what a G21 is. Extension tubes go twixt camera and lens and allow you to focus closer. You might want to get them before you think about a macro lens and they will be handy with the latter if you get one.

I see. I'll do some research on those. Any particular one that will work best with the 18-55 that comes w/ the XTi? I might get a tube then put my money towards a 70-300mm since I need one of those as well.
Thanks!

kinda off topic here but when looking at that 70-300IS... consider a 70-200 f/4L. Both lenses are at same price point. I own the 70-300 and sometimes wished I had the 70-200/4L.

Been reading that a bit lately. You don't feel the extra is an advantage? For the zoom I'm looking to mostly do wildlife, horseshows and rodeo and sometimes I might be up in a booth or on other side of area and might not be as close as I would like. Think the 200 is suitable for distances of 150-300 feet?

btw, a glock 21 is a .45 caliber handgun...
I shoot horse shows pretty much every weekend (photos.tallmanphoto.com). Here's the deal... you need AT LEAST 1/500th shutter speeds for a moving/jumping horse. I prefer 1/800th-1/1000th. Speed REALLY helps and being limited to f/5.6 at the big end really stinks in lower light (overcast).
IS is really nice and reduces camera shake... but at the shutter speeds that you will be shooting at it wont really make a difference. In an outdoor ring, most of my shots end up being somewhere between 100mm and 250mm. I rarely go all the way to 300mm. Not needed if you position yourself well.
The 70-300 is a real nice lens, great optics, very light. Its gonna be used by my girlfriend next spring - nice and light for her. The 70-200 lenses have better optics, are heavier, and are faster.
Its definitly out of this price range, but i'm going to get the 70-200 f/2.8L IS lens (1800 bucks) next spring. I choose to get IS because it still helps with panning... when i'm shooting car/drag racing events. For horse events alone, I would just go for the f/2.8L (1200 bucks). Im also going to get a 1.4x teleconverter.. so if I need the extra reach with the 70-200 f/2.8L IS... I can put that on there and end up with 110-280mm f/4 lens.

The G21 is one of my favorite shooters. Gotta love the .45 ACP.

Ah got the answer.. its a gun, excuse my ignorance. Handguns are no longer allowed in this country so only criminals carry them (more than ever before).
Best built tubes are the Canon but they are pricey and do no better job than the Kenkos -unfortunately they dont work with EFS lenses. Jessops do but you will need to import as I dont think they are sold in the States.
You better get a nifty fifty lens - cheap but good for closeups when mounted on tubes like Kenko. Failing that a 58mm close up filter on your kit lens may do - again you get what you pay for with Nikon and Canon much better than the likes of Hoya.

I dont know if you've been to the UK recently but i'm not sure you'd want to arm the population. I'm not knocking a country that so many people apparently risk their lives to reach but lets just say it aint as civil as our parents say it once was......
add to that the law here does not support self defence and victims of crime like in the States.

Ive been to London a couple times. Lets not turn this into a gun control debate... i could go on for hours pro-gun! HAHAH!! I love the fact that I can legally own guns in the US. I very much dislike the fact that I cannot carry a concealed a pistol in New Jersey and New York City due to extremely strict CCW gun regulations.
"UK the civil" is like saying "America the free". <--- it WAS*

Any ideas on how to get both the "21" and "G" symbol in focus? The 21 is clearly in focus but the top left part of hte G logo starts to lose focus. Any comments or tips? Thanks ya'll.

Don't know a lot about guns. Cluster bombs, bomb, missiles, nuclear weapons...now there's some fire power ya. Heck with those you don't have to aim, just get close.

you used quite an open aperture f5.6 which limits the depth of field unless absolutely face on to subject. Try f13 and you should have both in focus.
Your Avatar was taken at an angle - can we see the full sized image of that knife and compare DOF.

can't read EXIF on this one but suspect its more like f8 as you have reasonable depth of field.
