i just got my Tokina 12-24 and i mounted it on my 30D. something weird happened... at different focal lengths, specially at 12mm, the flash will fire at full power for no reason -- it will severely overexpose the shot. it will do so until i remove the battery on the 430EX.

any ideas what's causing this? thanks people!

Does the flash ever fire correctly with that lens?
Does the flash work correctly with the other lenses you have?
Did you check to make sure that the flash is mounted correctly and inserted fully into the hotshoe?
DId you check to make sure that the flash is not in Manual mode?

I can't think of anything that should cause this, unless you had bumped a setting somewhere or changed something and forgotten to change it back - The obvious one being the flash set on manual, but there are several other things that could cause this. Have you gone through your exif to see if anything was at the wrong setting?

i wish there was, but no. always use my 430EX at ETTL. the first time it happened, i turned it off, removed the batteries, checked FEC. it worked for a few shots, then went full power again. weird ....

Do both of your 430s do the same thing? What about your 580?

I have that combo and working well. Only other thing I could think of is the contact on the hot shoe is dirty?
