I have officially gone off the deep end.
I put down a deposit on a 1DmkII.
Penn Camera in DC is taking pre-order sales, pre-order deposits and have started a waiting list.

Boy... I wish I had your guts. I would love that camera, but treasure my marrrage too much. Well, maybe next year I can upgrade to the 10DmkII.

Super Duper Jealous!

I don't think there is a local store in Rhode Island that will be getting these things in?

Hmm, maybe in 5 years when we discover oil in our back yard, I'll buy *two* of these :)

I also reserved one from from the first ones arriving in Helsinki - they said they probably won't get initially very many and there are some people on list before me, so in bad case it may be summer before I get one. The price was now estimated 5000 euros. Ouch.

What is the price on the camera or the deposit amount they are asking for? I have herd the camera is selling for $4500 is this correct? Now to figure out how many memory cards is will require for shooting RAW?? Ouch alot of Green! I am gona wait and see if Dell can offer a lower price than B&H so it may be a few months or so I will go for the 1D Mark II?? We will see.

Penn Camera is taking 3 types of pre-release options.
As explain to me by Jeff Snyder, here are the options they are giving people.

1. Pre-purchase based on $3500, yes "3". This will put you on the top teir of the list. If (when) camera price is confirmed higher, you will have to pay the difference. He says the price has not officially been announced.

2. Make deposit of $500, to get on the second teir of the list. When the gates open, you will egt one in the order you are on the list.

3. Just tell him you want one and he will put you on the list. This, he says, is the slowest way of getting hold of one, the lowest priority.

Jeff was at the super bowl, Penn had a media lounge set up next to the Canon PS people. He supplies many pro photogs with gear...See sportsshooter.com. He is pictured with the Canon rep and the MkII.

I took option 2, because I just couldn't push myself to pay $3500 and not have anything to show for a month or two, probably 2 or 3 months.
