Challenge #95 - HOME

RESULTS!

Given the subject (almost everyone has a home - right?) I had hoped for more entries, but thanks to all for posting enough good ones to let me choose winners.

FIRST: Alans220 for "My Home". This one made me smile right away as the dog is almost barking the title out loud. The fact that his home looks like a miniature human house complete with blue roof adds to the charm. Nice exposure, too, as I know it's tough to get it right with a black (or partly black) animal, whether dog or bear. Congratulations and over to you for the next challenge!

SECOND: Rpolitsr for "Football at home". This might better be titled "Fans Clubhouse", but the comfortable jumble of generations you have managed to fit into the room and still get the exposure and focus right (even on the TV) clearly shows that everyone, including the photographer, is right at home.

THIRD: Boutty for "Help with hanging up the cloths before leaving home for the country club?". Although my first impression was "laundry day" rather than "home", the more I looked at this image the better I liked it. It defiantly proclaims that despite the commercial activity below this is a thriving family home, although in most uptight communities here in Canada there would soon be bylaw enforcement officers and neighbourhood complainers knocking at their door.

Others in order posted:

Toogy: This is a nice portrait of a family at home, but I think with some changes you might have done much better with these subjects. Everyone is focused on something out of the picture that should have been included in the composition. I also think a warmer - maybe sepia - tone would have been better, and I'm not a fan of large signatures on photos.

Andrewaaa5: No offense to your lovely lady, but this is too much portrait (and maybe too much camera shake?) to be a "home" winner.

Marie: I was somehow expecting a more "peopled" entry from you, and although this hearth may be the heart of a home I would have liked to see some "home" around it, or maybe slippers (with or without feet) in front of the fire.

Megatrixel. Although an excellent Christmas portrait it doesn't also say "home" quite as well as the top three.

************************************************** ************************
I'll be looking for images that convey the concept of "home". This may help: "While a house or other residential dwelling is often referred to as a home, the concept of "home" is broader than a physical dwelling. Home is often a place of refuge and safety, where worldly cares fade and the things and people that one loves becomes the focus." (Wikipedia)

Your photo should illustrate this without the need for explanation, and I hope we'll get some beautiful, imaginative, and above all well composed entries.

Have fun and PLEASE READ THE RULES!

Nice job Teekay! The top 3 shots are certainly first rate! Congratulations to everyone.

Perhaps my shot would have fit the theme better if I backed off and included more of the room. But that would've required me to clean up the room!!!:)

Hi all,

Thanks teekay, suprised and delighted by your choice, I didn't expect to win, there were so many very good photos.

Jake, the dog, dosn't spend very much time in his own home, he seems to prefer to be with us on the sofa, watching TV!

The next challenge will be posted very shortly.

You should have shown us clutter and all. It's what makes a home look comfortable - at least that's my philosophy, although it doesn't always go over very well here ;)

...ah, no worries. it was a joke since you only seen half of her in the previous challange (ambient light...) well done all : ) nice pics : )

i loved the well placed props of your pic megatrixel but the model did not look too please to pose

Thanks.

My kids are always aware of the camera. It's tough to get a shot where they aren't too stiff or where they aren't being too goofy.

Congratulations to alans220 and Boutty .

Thank you teekay for the challenge topic, for the additional job on judging two challenges the same week and for the unexpected second place. I evaluated some other entries as better pictures than mine.

This might better be titled "Fans Clubhouse", but the comfortable jumble of generations you have managed to fit into the room and still get the exposure and focus right (even on the TV) clearly shows that everyone, including the photographer, is right at home

It was a very special day, the most important match in the history of our team: a match against England to advance to the quarter-finals of the world football (soccer) championship in Germany. We lost, but we were ready for the winner’s parade :( .

The improvised auditorium was in my brother’s house, with four generations watching the game. As I said, it was a bounced flash, and the image in the TV set was real, but I post processed it to match the white balance and levels on the T shirts of the player and the spectators: my aunt, my sisters and brothers, one of my sons, many nieces and nephews and some of their sons.

It would be better a challenge with more entries, but there were very good submissions and I enjoyed all of them, specially the black and white conversion of Toogy with that small amount of red cast that makes the picture warm and the splashes of light in MegaTrixel’s son, certainly an improvement over the mud splashes he posted in the Street Candids challenge some time ago. :) .

Congrats to alans220 & rpolitsr for the top places. Great job teekay of hosting both contests & brilliant achievements for winning both small camera & this G' series contests!

Though in this contest there were not many entries posted, but I think the quality were pretty high - from Andrew's lovely soft focus image of his other half, Toogy's demostration of the new G7 high ISO shot - Welcome to our little contest Toogy & MegaTrixel's awesome sesson's glow. I dare to say almost every image can get the top place. Well done everyone! :p

Thanks teekay for liking my image. Your words described it perfectly! Believe or not, my mate spotted this shot in a town main street while we were looking for a bakery shop for our breakfast & he pointed it to me who have already carried the camera. ;)
