She is very cute and precious looking and it has good lighting. If the background would have been in key it would have been great.

The lighting was a 15x53 chimera super pro box with an a/b strobe. She was standing almost in it.The background was black velvet. My mottled muslins were all bypassed by the clients. Maybe it's time to replinish the selections (heh). Thanks for the comments

Do you schedule a planning consultation ? I will not schedule a portrait session before meeting for a consultation. At that time I show good and bad clothing / background selections and explain why.

Yes, I do and we did but when the clients want a certain look, that's what we go with. Personally, I think black has it's place and works well in low key moody stuff like this perhaps

I like that a lot. What would have made it great ... use of rim lighting to set her off from the background as well as a background light pointed at the back of her hair instead of the background and a hairlight.

I know what you mean about clients insisting on the wrong clothes and / or wrong background. When I have that I make samples as "don't do this" examples.

Even if clients pick the wrong clothes and background you can still use lighting to make the shots more attractive, such as the mentioned hair light or back lighting the subject.
