View Full Version : No Canon CD with my new G2

Hope some one is looking at this forum!
I received my new Canon Powershot G2 and tested it right away (well ... as soon as I got the 'green' light). While I was waiting for the light (the green one) I inventoried all of the goodies that I had ordered with/for the G2 - it seems that Canon neglected to place their bundle CD in the box.
If some one knows where I could download the 'stuff' from I would really appreciate it. Canon replied to my request with a tech support 1-800 number - but they are closed 'till Monday 10:00 EST (GMT + 5).
I down loaded the Twain driver and the W.. driver (I'm using WinXP) but get an error when using either - even after a restart.
Would love to download my pictures!
Thanks

I helped someone once upon a time by telling him to turn over his CD jewel case -- there are two CDs in the case. I know it baffled me for the first few minutes of ownership.
Try it...

Thanks for the tip - however I did not receive a jewel case - only Adobe Photoshop 5.0 LE in a CD sleeve.
I did not know there was a Canon CD 'till I reviewed the books.

Dandy,
Well, I thought that Don had helped you right off! :) But I should have known that you would have noticed the cd if you were the type who reads the books before you play with the toys. :eyes
When I traded in my G1 for the G2, I did not even bother to install the software at all. I use a card reader to move the pictures to the computer. I have never had the camera connected to the computer at all. The cost of the readers are low and this allows me to keep my camera safe in its case. I am always changing cards anyway, so I have found this to be the most convienient way for me to work.
Hope this may help you a little.
Good luck on your first round of shots, don't forget to share with us what you get.

Thanks Eric,
I am sort of the impatient type - I was hoping someone had a URL where I could download the Canon CD with all of it's bundled goodies. I guess I'll have to wait 'till tomorrow morning and talk to Canon customer service and wait for the 'Pony Express' to deliver it to my door.
I really want to practice the Pano thing! My wife and I are celebrating her birthday this year at Waikiki and we plan on taking many digitals!
To All - what a great forum! Helpful folks that are willing to bend over backwards and tons of great information!
Thanks Pekka!!

I don't use, nor recommend, using Canon's software. I would just use what I needed from Canon. (I'm surprised no one else spoke up before me.)
To get the minimum to get started, go to www.powershot.com/powershot2/customer/driverdown.html. Instead of using their zoombrowser software, I'd look at using either breezebrowser (they have a free downloader as well) or Scott professional. That software can be found at http://www.breezesys.com, and http://scottprofessional.com. You can download a demo version and decide which you like more before buying it for a nominal fee.
