Shortly after getting my Rebel, I decided to get the lens everybody says is a "must have"... Canon 50mm F1.8 MKII
Well, it did not disappoint. I love this lens!
Now I only wish there was a zoom lens that was this cheap and sharp!

These are my first pictures, all with the Rebel, 420EX, 50mm MKII combo.

Pictures Here (http://www.mts.net/~lftbrain/50mm/index.htm)

Nice ones, that lens is a great value.

If you want a value zoom, try the Sigma 70-300 APO at appx $185US.
It's a decent zoom with a nice macro mode and cant be beat at that price.

Nice shots.

Best reason for getting a new SLR? A new child. 8)

I got my first SLR (an Olympus manual focus SLR) in 1980 when my daughter was born, because I was frustrated with trying to take baby shots with any detail in them with a fixed-focus P&S camera (babies look small when you have to stand back several feet with a wide-angle lens). I still have that outfit, and recently, she borrowed it for a school photography class, to shoot/develop her own B&W pictures.

What goes around, comes around... 8)

Congratulations, and have fun...

Thaks for the replies people.

I will look into that zoom lens.

I found this page which is awesome.
Just select the lens brand, and then you can find almost any lens available, along with specs and sample shots.
