View Full Version : Upload does not read IPTC header or location (FIXED IN 2.02)

My uploaded images do not have location or header (instead "New Photo") assigned automatically by EE. These fields (location, title, headline, description etc.) are visible in the IPTC of the images. If I use the EE Server Tools "View Combined Camera Data" on one of these images, header and location are both blank but text (i.e. description) is correct.
I assume this isn't actually an EE bug since someone else would have mentioned it by now, but is there anything in my set-up that is causing it? EXIF (Internal) is installed.
Cheers

Particularly if you're using Photoshop CS2, it could be this bug (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=224121) which Pekka included my fix for in 2.01. If you haven't upgraded to 2.01 I suggest you do so.
If you are using Photoshop CS2, you may also benefit from this (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=230992), which is not in 2.01.

Hi David
Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately I have already tried all of this: I am running 2.01 and have included your ee_extract_xmp_data but to no avail.
Any other ideas?

Can you either post here or IM me a download location for one of the troublesome images, so that I can take a look at the metadata. By all means deface the image, so long as the metadata remains intact - that is, the data that EE fails to read is in the image, but you haven't miraculously transformed it to be readable.
I have a hunch as to what is wrong - and warn you that running the image through Photoshop will probably 'fix' it if you've already applied my patches. That's both a good and a bad thing - if Photoshop fixes the images, then you could batch process the images in either Photoshop or Bridge before uploading them to EE, but it also means that an image run through Photoshop will be useless for tracking this bug (so you probably can't deface the image if that bothers you).
I can't promise a quick fix, but at least I'll be able to tell you what is going wrong, and push it onto my pending pile for fixing EE's metadata handling (if nobody else gets to it first).
The big chunk of work that has been taking my energy for the past four weeks is nearly at an end - I'm hopeful it'll be finished today. There'll then be more time for photography and work on EE .

Yes, an example photo would help a lot!

Here's an example image. Note that I haven't used Photoshop at all - a combination of Rawshooter Premium and IDimager have been used in this case.
I appreciate the help!

Contrary to the edited title, this has NOT been fixed in 2.02.
I would be interested to know what you found from the photo I attached.
Cheers

Actually I've just noticed that description is being read correctly, but header/title and location still are not.
