I was just enlightened that the 420 will not fire if the 550 is set to manual. I hated to hear that but maybe you can sugest something for me.

Besided the 550 and 420 I have a Medialight strobe I like to use with an umbrella. I have been trying to find a way to use the 2 flashes and strobe together. Sounding like its not going to happen if I cant fire the 420 while 550 is in M.

Any sugestions.

The big advantage of the Canon Wireless slave system is that other flashes won't pop your slaved flash the way a convention light slave would. If you can live with that you could put a conventional light slave on the 420. Then it would trigger. Or you could buy a Vivitar 283 and a conventional light slave and have it fire on either manual or on Automatic.

If you put the 420 in group C you should be a ble to make it over or under expose the 550's output. Now the 550 has to be in Master and on E-TTL, but I wonder it that'd help too.
