In an indoor party during night, how would you prefer to take photo shots? I havse Canon S50. If I use flash, I loose the natural color and tone of the shot and if I shoot under recessed lights, I get lot of noise in picture.
Any comment would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Like my S45, the S50 has a white balance setting specifically for using with the flash. You might want to try it and see how the colors look to you. Try using ISO 100 or 200 also, with and without flash, depending on how much available light you have to work with...

You can also use the flash exposure compensation in order to prevent the flash firing wth too much power.

It depends on what you want to achieve with the lighting. Since it's just a party, you likely want to take snapshots and would likely rather have the flat lighting of the flash than the more soft lighting of the room lights and lots of noise.
If you can raise the room lights a bit, (which would lower your flash use), you may come to a level that works for you without bugging the guests too much. Another bonus of higher room lights is that the background will have more light!
Given another setting such as a portrait, the room lights would create much more evocative lighting than you would with flash. Here you must increase the room lights (maybe even dragging a lamp or two from another room) and create the lighting effect you want. You could use the flash as fill flash, but you wouldn't generally want it as the main source. (Again, maybe you would if you wanted flatter lighting...)

When I think of indoor parties and taking pictures, I think about how I can set my camera up for taking quick, impromptu shots. I wouldn't even consider trying to run around and adjust the lighting and other external factors...
Just my $.02 worth.
