Hi,
Christmas time, and this is what i am hoping to buy myself ;)
So i would like to see pics of what the 70-200f4 can do with the 1.4x converter on it. I know there is a image archive on this but that is a combination of all versions of this great lens. Obviously the f4 will be effected more by using the 1.4x so i would like to see how it fares.
Apologies if this has already been asked before.
Thanks in advance.
A.

I don't have any pics for the web, but I can tell you that my experience is that the 70-200 f/4 with the canon 1.4x produces excellent photos. Ed Rader posted some beautiful shots with his f/4 IS a week or so ago. The debradation effect of the teleconverter is IMO minimal at best. If you like the 70-200 f/4, you'll like it with the 1.4x. The 2x version is another matter.

what did you mean by that? if you meant you'll be @ f5.6 instead of F4 if you are using an f2.8 zoom you are correct but that mainly affects DOF and shutter speed, not IQ.

ed, yes i meant that affected in terms of aperture rather than quality- i am rather vague in my typing, but it all makes sense in my head! lol :)

Here is one of the moon I took yesterday (11/30/06) afternoon with the 70-200 f/4 L and the 2x TC and 1.4x TC combined.

thanks, thought there might be more pics out there than what is in the image archive, surely this must be a popular choice given its low cost :)
O well, i will have to add to the stream when i get them both myself.

That combination isn't bad if you have adequate light. I use it for baseball quite often with excellent results.

thank you for those photos i am sold- merry christmas to me ;)
Yes i intend for outdoor use, bird photography- herons mostly, the odd zoo trip and airshows, i see no use for it in low light- some day i will own the 300 2.8, until then this will do me :)
If i have to shoot in low light i will use the 85mm 1.8 and my feet lol :) or maybe i 200 2.8 dream pipe- i have seen great results from this lens.

That 200L is a fantastic piece of glass. Probably the best lens I own in terms of image quality.

Better than the 100mm Macro? (the best IQ lens I currently have). That truly must be some lens!

Thanks for posting this. I just ordered the 1.4x Canon TC today to use with the 400mm f/5.6L, but after seeing some of these photos on the referenced thread in the link, I am anxious to use it on the 70-200mm f/4L as well.
