My Lexar JumpShot CF-Card Reader works fine with Lexar CF cards. However, it is unable to read images from a SanDisk 256MB card I bought today.

Is that because the JumpShot was designed to only read Lexar cards, or is the SanDisk card faulty? (The SanDisk card works OK in my Digital Rebel)

The card reader should be able to read all cards and the card should be able to be read by all card readers. So where's the hitch? Hard to say since you say that the card works fine in the camera.

To trouble shoot, I suppose I would:

Hook the camera to the computer to see if the card can be read that way;
Take the card to another card reader and see if it can be read

I would suspect the card, or??? what operating system are you using? If you are using an older operating system, that system may not recognize the card.

Good luck,

Scott

I also had trouble with the JumpShot reader. Finally gave up and bought a generic $15 card reader at Best Buy. No problems whatsoever.

I too had problems with the JumpShot. I bought another Lexar reader, just called a CompactFlash Reader (the little purple one) and it works fine. Something proprietary in those JumpShots I guess. Mine went in the trash.

Thanks for the feedback on the JumpShot card reader. I can read the Sandisk card to my computer by connecting the Rebel directly via USB (although very slowly) and by connecting my X-Drive and using that as a card reader. It does seem that the JumpShot reader is programmed to read only Lexar CF cards.

My JumpShot came with the 1gig CF I bought.

I was warned that it would not work with any other CF card.

(Shout out to Kevin at Samy's - Santa Barbara.)

My JumpShot came with a 512MB Lexar 40X CF-card. It works fine with a Lexar 256MB 12X card too, but not the SanDisk one.

I suppose what I should have said was "I was warned it wouldn't work with any card except those by Lexar".

Sorry.

For Mac users with JumpShot card readers, the recent MacOS 10.3.3 update will disable your card reader even with Lexar media!

There is a patch available from Lexar although I don't see if on their download page yet. Contact their live support and a "STUC.dmg" file will be emailed to you to install. This fixes the problem.
