If that's the original (or even if its not), it is an excellent shot. Its unusual to see a bird with such a long beak. Its even more rare to catch on way out on a limb such as this. Very good.

There it is,..

An Ibis I think?

Nice find!

The exposure looks good,. the bird is fine and the sky a nice deep blue..

You could improve on the image by cropping off a lot on the left hand side and perhaps a little on the right hand side.

This will help in a few ways,

but first,, here are the two downsides;

Nothing to be done about it,. the bird is simply facing the wrong way! :)
It is a matter of luck and patience as to whethter you can get a shot where the subject works with the photographer, this is true of relatives too!

Again,. there are things that can be done with compostition to save this image...

But the second downside is the problem,. due to the attitufde of the bird,. the focus is on its "rear",. not on it's eye... this is the make our break I am afraid in this case as the salcvation of this image would have relied on the focus...

So,
A dramatic crop off of the left hand side,. as well as closing in all round,, putting the eye just off center to the left,. could give an interesting,. glancing over the shoulder look. perhaps even a little humorous.

But the image will still suffer from the eye and head not being in focus.

You did a great job getting close enough to get such a clear image :)
Keep trying and you'll find plenty of oportunities to get more intimate moments with your local wildlife :)

Thank you all for your frankness. I agree with all your comments and can see how I can improve in the future. The photo is original with no editing and full frame. The equipment was a 10D with 100-400L IS at 400mm and hand held. I thought the bird looked rather humerous, thus my name for the foto. I need to figure out the method of posting.

Thanks again.

Hi,

As for the method of posting, you need have to get a link directly to the foto, and not to some webpage containing it. What usually works is getting the picture on your browser, then right clicking it, choose "Properties" and use the URL shown in there to put within and . On the page the picture was, that would be the following address http://www.bytephoto.com/photopost/data/500/1608Ibis.JPG?6275
If you're using Mozilla/Firebird you can just use "Copy Image Location" when you right click on the foto.
Also notice you can edit your posts here, so if it doesn't show on the first attempts, just keep editing it and trying, instead of posting again.

As for the photo itself, I partially agree with CyberDyneSystems regarding the focus, and the fact that the bird didn't cooperate in looking at you. But as for cropping, I kinda enjoy the context of the sky and the branch, so perhaps cropping it too much would lose that.

On what concerns the picture "as is", that's a crystal clear shot, the contrast is excelent and the colors too. Nice one.

I appreciate your help and comments. I've been wanting to post something for quite sometime but never could get the hang of it. Now with your help, I'm sure I can do it. :D
