I am blaming all of this on Tom, RMF and the others that have beaten me senceless about the 100-400 L.
OK guys I went out and got one. After trying the Canon and the Sigma 80-400 OS for my old tired eyes there was no comparision.
First picture is of the sleeping dog ( Yes she does do other things but not a lot and not well  )

This one is of my "model" squirrel who refused to turn around. Hence my first shot with the new lens is of a squirrels butt
A little USM applied to both.

Looks like kibble and Kraft dinner for the next month or so

Neither of these animals seem terribly impressed with your new lens. In fact, I'd say the squirrel is downright disrespectful.
Nice and sharp, though.
Attaboy!

Tom,
To quote RD "I don't get no respect". Looks like white lenses fall into the same catagory

TomW,
Gitzo took one look at the "Great White" and locked himself in the closet.
Complaining about the cold, the snow, the heavy lens....I do believe that he is a fair weather a**.
We got 20cm of snow yesterday and we should get the same tomorrow. He will sh*t or go blind but Saturday is "deer day" so I expect quite a fight.
