I finally broke down and got a new computer, which came with Windows XP. When I tried to install my G1 drivers, I got an error stating the drivers weren't digitally signed. After looknig on the Canon web site, I found a supposedly updated driver that would work with XP. However, when I tried to install them, I got the same error. I tried to install them anyway, but XP responded with an error saying that the class installer had denied installation of the driver.
Has anyone her gotten their G1 drivers to work with XP, and if so, how?

Make sure you log in to win xp as administrator (or with administrator's rights)
Ignore digital signature warning - all 3-rd party drivers (non Microsoft) will always cause this screen to appear
I have winXP (Pro) and G1 working fine...

Unfortunately, I am an administrator for my machine, and I have ignored the warnings about being digitally signed.
I'm using the XP Home edition on a Compaq 5345 computer. Don't know if something in this setup is causing the problem or not. I read on dpreview.com that someone had to do a complete reinstall of XP to clear the problem up. That's not an option here as I didn't get a CD with XP on it with the computer.
I'm tempted to just buy a CF reader and use it to transfer the data to the computer...

I finally got my G1 to work on Windows XP. Ended up booting XP in safe mode, deleting the USB ports, rebooting and letting XP reinstall the USB drivers. Then I hooked the camera up and everything installed fine.

After months of using just the camera for u/l pictures from it to my pc, I broke down and spent $20 US for a SanDisk CF reader. Not only does it save on battery useage, it saves you much "wait" time. Don't walk...RUN to your nearest discount electronics store and purchase a CF reader. Highly recommended.

Well i made a big mess of it myself (i had installed and then removed SP1) and i got the same error, which incidently this is one of three links that Google for the term "canon "class installer."" All i know for sure is it worked before SP1, it worked after, but it didn't work after uninstalling SP1 (the uninstall *did* warn me...)
Anyway i tried the removing USB ports, didn't work. I tried new drivers from Canon site, but then the installer got confused about source file locations. So i deleted the /canon directory, uninstalled the driver, had Norton kill all registry entries, rebooted, and installed from CD.
It's OK now. Whatever works i guess.
/going to buy a cardreader now.
