Kookaburra photos

The standard of photography here is so good, it is a bit scary posting here but I guess I have to start somewhere ;) I spent a recent trip to Queensland trying to learn to take bird photos. Here are a couple of a kookaburra I found one morning.

Taken with 1D MkII, 300mm 2.8 + 1.4 TC at f 5.6

I've always thought these were a strange looking bird with that big head. I'd say you learned good, cause these are excellent captures. :)

nice shots,that bird does seem to have an overly large head.
maybe a young one?

I don't think it's a young bird, it's just the way they are.They're related to Kingfishers or are one type and I think their heads often seem out of proportion to the body. Lovely shots.

Yep I was going to say they remind me of our Kingfishers here. Great shot. And I might add you sure have the camera and lens to get some great shots!
