I wanted to shoot RAW with my D30 as I wanted to be able to post process my images, correct wite balance, exposure etc.

I have taken some shots using JPEG, and some using RAW. I converted the RAW files using Capture One, the tweaked in PS.

On my screen (unprofiled) the RAW and the JPEG seemed to have the same overall colour, but when I got the prints back form the lab, the JPEG shots looked pretty good on colour, but the RAW ones were way off.

Any idea where I may be going wrong ? Is it something to do with profiles ?

I am thinking that as the JPEG from the camera is in sRGB colour space, the printer at the lab knows how to map the colours, but if I have saved the image from Capture One without a proper colour space, then the lab does not know how to interpret the coulor.

Does any of this make sense, or am I totaly confused ?

You must tell CaptureOne to output your images as sRGB. Look in the help for CaptureOne about how to do this (I'm not behind my computer at home right now so can't check it for you...).

I'd advise you to properly calibrate and profile your monitor, that will make the colours of your prints much more predictable. You can do it with Adobe Gamma (a small program included with Photoshop, PS Elements etc.), but it's better to do it with a hardware device like a Spyder. Look in the previous posts in this forum, the Spyder has been discussed before.

I think Jesper could be right. Here's (http://www.rogercavanagh.com/helpinfo/24_workflow_c1.htm#+Capture%20One%20Colour%20Manag ement) a description of how to set up colour management in C1.
