how do you test how many shutter actuations a 10D camera has?

You dont unfortunatly. You can only get an accurate result from a Canon service centre

You can't. Canon reportedly can, but the necessary software and hardware ren't generally available. You may get a rough idea from the frame nme if the camera hasn't been reset, no-one's shoved a high-count card from another camera, and you don't care about shots fired with no card in the camera.
