If it is not already too late, here is my 1.5 wishlist. Perhaps some of these are already available and I haven't discovered them or they are just awaiting to be documented. Feel free to add your own suggestions:

1. A Resize utility like Rethumbnail which would resize and rewatermark existing photos in the database

2. Ability to perform searches on two or more categories (e.g. category includes 'Trees' and 'Lakes')

3. Ability to exclude certain IP addresses from being counted in the number of picture views (I don't want my IP address to count)

4. Ability to customize the field names that appear in the search drop down lists without changing source code

5. Ability to add searchable user defined integer and string fields to the photo database

6. Expand PowerTools to include all fields (e.g. cannot edit ISO in current version)

7. Ability to view larger version of the photo in Photo Editor (currently limited to thumb and microthumb)

8. Ability to include a photo's associated WAV file for upload and playback (both on web and in photo editor - wav file often includes valuable comments)

9. Ability to perform cross exhibition searches

10. Add a button in Photo Editor to 'Save changes to this photo and edit next photo'

This has been on my list and it is nearing the top now.

2. Ability to perform searches on two or more categories (e.g. category includes 'Trees' and 'Lakes')

This will come in "advanced search" right after 1.5 is out.

4. Ability to customize the field names that appear in the search drop down lists without changing source code
5. Ability to add searchable user defined integer and string fields to the photo database

Will come - not top in list, though.

3. Ability to exclude certain IP addresses from being counted in the number of picture views (I don't want my IP address to count)

Nice idea. But what about ISP blocks? Do you want to rule out thousands of machines just to catch you?

9. Ability to perform cross exhibition searches

EE can already do this. Set up a search and change exhibitions (or choose all combined), the search is maintained.

6. Expand PowerTools to include all fields (e.g. cannot edit ISO in current version)

Yes, ISO is there. More to follow.

7. Ability to view larger version of the photo in Photo Editor (currently limited to thumb and microthumb)

Well, you can view the large photos by using link "check validity of saved size paths for this filename", but I will add "view this in public browser", too. I would not like to add a display of larger photos to photo editor - it would make it too slow to open.

8. Ability to include a photo's associated WAV file for upload and playback (both on web and in photo editor - wav file often includes valuable comments)

Yes this has been on my mind - I'll add it as soon as I get my 1D Mark II... :)

10. Add a button in Photo Editor to 'Save changes to this photo and edit next photo'

Not a bad idea! Thanks for writing.

3. Ability to exclude certain IP addresses from being counted in the number of picture views (I don't want my IP address to count)

I was just thinking about list of IP addresses (in my case just consisting of one IP address), but I could see that it would be useful to have a block like 123.123.123.*.

No offense, but wav files? why would you want to use a wav file. I personally shoot Nikon (D1) and even tho It doesn't record any sounds with the images (thank god) i know people with d100's, which can record sounds, but they would never use this.. I can imagine if you're a total noob to cameras possibly, but I do not know anyone serious about photography that would record wav files.

Then again, you can always include it as an option and let those who want to use it enable it, and for the rest of us, allow us to disable it.

1D Mark II has WAV recording option, too: it can be quite nice to for example shoot interview or party, family event or concert and get a small sound clip of the moment. Including that with gallery photo(s) should be possible.

Then again, you can always include it as an option and let those who want to use it enable it, and for the rest of us, allow us to disable it.

I would never add anything "autoplay" on a site. Always as "click to hear". An as you may have noticed the tendency IS to make everything selectable in EE :)

It seems to a useful option to "speak down" instead of write down a notice about the location or the taken object

Some additional suggestions. Again, if any of these are already available, it is my oversight:

1. In the Miscellaneous Settings editory, add date & time (and time only) options to the date display. It would be nice to be able to set this option at the Exhibition level.

2. Ability to exclude fields from the camera data display (Support and Light Source are not useful to me)

3. Ability for a single EE install to host multiple databases

BTW, these are much lower priority than my original list, although I would like #1 and it should be easy to implement.

If I am uploading a group of pictures where the exif datetime is incorrect (e.g. wrong time zone or wrong year), it would nice to have and Adjust Date and Adjust Time option that would be applied to the files being added.

Okay, yet another suggestion:

Option for the viewer to subscribe to an exhibition. View would provide an email address and be notified any time a photo was added to the exhibition. There ought to be a way to override this so that photos can be added without notification. I don't see a need to notify when photos are modified or removed, but others may see a need for this. Finally, notification should occur at most once a day so that multiple changes to an exhibition during the day doesn't generate multiple notifications. For my use, notification once a week at most would be fine.

EE should be a gallery, to edit EXIF fields you can use the free program Exifer from http://www.friedemann-schmidt.com/software/exifer/.

3. Ability for a single EE install to host multiple databases
yes!! this is something that would be nice for sites that allow "hosting"... i have a few friends that i have given some space to on my server and it would be nice for them to be able to have their own gallery rather than me having to do the stuff for them... it'd be great for them to be able to log in and do their own stuff in their own gallery with only one install of EE rather than having to install it in each virtual domain or put a copy in each "member's" directory...

 My only wish is that the next full release comes out before 2 years have lapsed from the previous one.

 My only wish is that the next full release comes out before 2 years have lapsed from the previous one.

I know that is sarcasm but I still take it personally

Because I want to make the 1.5 the best gallery solution when it is launched I have been listening to user feedback very carefully, writing down and coding those changes I find good (remember: I work alone and I have two other jobs). I have now frozen features because I admit you are right: I suffer from common developer disease of adding new features all the time and thus delaying getting a version out. These are the features and fixes now coded in since beta 5:

Internal EXIF reader (selectable).
Internal XMP/XMA reader.
Internal ftp system (selectable).
"Uncookied" - a short URL system, configurable
Keywords in page title and other search engine friendly tweaks.
"Exhibition" is now "gallery" in public area (for search engines).
Editor login system (1 persistent cookie, 1 user at time).
IPTC to categories.
Ftp password crypt system with 127 bit personal key.
New module/imagedata tester + overall data view.
Javascriplinks removed (no longer needed), html page sizes reduced 20%.
More selections and settings here and there.
EE Backup eats now much less memory and resources.
Report size display, automatic purge on logout.
More accurate performance counters (worked on these because I needed them on debugging).
Performance measurements can be disabled (20ms speed gain).
Viewerstyle logic fixed and functionality tested.
Analyze/repair page added.
Long filenames truncated in editor (in middle).
Long words hyphenated in photo page header.
Photo page photo detail list is now fully configurable in appearance and content.
Simple language file check in language editor.
ALL editor filenames are newly formed.
Photo and list page performance tweaked.
Plenty of bugs fixed and small improvements made.
Online editor help system activated (contents is most likely finished in RC).

I think many of these features are very important and worth waiting for.

What I intended to do (or done partly) but won't be in 1.5...

- advanced search
- viewerstyles with special configuration to each photo

....because on to do list for 1.5 I still have e.g. "embedding toolkit" (selectable items to embed), manual input exif/xmp/iptc reading (mostly done) and so on. Not much but lots to type and test.

I want it to be ready as much as you do, but I want it to be good and without any major bugs or annoyances. If you want it out faster that is also possible but then it would not be shareware any more but 250 bucks per licence...

I can set this date addition/subtraction/fix into EE powertools area quite easily, for 1.51

Hi Pekka,
this sounds great! I know, some other packages has more integrated just now than EE (for example password-logging-system), but lacks here and there, what EE has.
And EE has a great support from you and that is, what makes me wait on the next release from EE ;)
I wish you a good weekend.

Oh Pekka,
I'm waiting for 1.5RC like my six year old daughter for the christmas evening...

EEbeta has been working quite nicely for me without any major/unsolvable problems, but then, my setup is quite simple.

I'm looking forward to the next release too, of course, especially for improvements within the EEcommerce module, but I prefer to wait for a stable version. No need to install and apply fix after fix.

By the way, have you worked on the EEcommerce-module lately?

Three more for the list:

1. Ability to upload from a subdirectory in th UPLOAD directory.

2. Ability to supply categories in the default photodata page.

3. In addition to placing jpg and (hopefully) wav files in the UPLOAD directory, place a txt/ini/xml file that would supply the field values for that photos. This file might look something like this:

header=James
retouch=Photoshop
Freetext=really nice photo
