I saw somebody with a hand strap showing off their equipment earlier this week and I cannot find the thread now.
I never use the neck strap with my XT as intended. It is always wrapped around my wrist. I have been meaning to look into hand straps and was wondering if you guys could suggest ones that you have used?
Thanks :)

I don't think you can use the hand strap without the battery grip in place. If you have the grip get the hand strap. It's worth the cost(got mine at Camera World in Portland $25)It makes you feel like the camera is attacted to your hand. It will also let you connect the neck strap to it witch makes it very secure.

I have the same Canon hand and neck strap setup on my 30D and XT. I love it.

You don't need a battery grip to have a hand strap, check out this thread

There are some with and without bottom plates...therefore one real nice model requires the battery grip base...while another brand comes with it's own base...yet another one I just got from Adorama for 9.95 just has a screw for the bottom and straps...
I would go with the best quality, heavy duty leather, hand strap with it's own base...Several options are available if you search Amazon.com...the biggest individual vendors also offer a choice of styles...

That's the one I saw!
Do you have to have the battery grip? If not, do you know the model number?

You could find it in B&H : Canon E1 Hand Strap (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=Search&A=details&Q=&sku=12984&is=REG&addedTroughType=search)
You should have the battery grip in order to attach it.

Can't use it then. I don't want the extra weight of the battery grip. One of the key draws to the XT was the light weight as I have a bad rotator cuff.

I only use a hand strap and love it. Before I had it I would wrap the neck strap around my hand too. I don't use a grip. There are a bunch of solutions out there for use without a grip. I use the camdapter, it works great.
Check it out here. (http://www.camdapter.com/)

Here is another option for the same price, same functionality. A little bit lighter as the excess aluminum on the bottom of the plate is removed. Imagetooling

the double ended plate allows the neck strap to be attached on the opposite side of the camera as the handstrap.

I use "Zing" wrist straps with my MKIIs. Very comfortable.
