Hi Folks

I've done a search of this site and several others. I've seen the article over at Sports Shooter:

I'm looking to use the WFT-E1A in an event type situation. The goal is to be able to travel around the indoor event taking pictures, and have each of those photos appear on the various large screen monitors throughout the building as they are taken. I've got that end covered. Meaning, I've got a computer system that will feed the various monitors.

I know the WFT-E1A will send files back to a computer but I'm not clear on what happens at that point. The goal is for each new picture to be displayed on the monitors real time...or pretty close to it. Can this be done automatically as each picture is taken or does it reqiure someone to be sitting at the computer, opening and manipulating files...which isn't really acceptable.

Does anyone know if the WFT-E1A is capable of this and/or what other hardware or software would be needed for this functionality?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

not entirely sure, but I believe the files will be put into a folder on the machine they are sent to. A quick question, though. windows or mac? If windows, set your screen saver to go on in a minute, put the screensaver as a slideshow, select the folder, and hey presto you have an almost live feed. As I said, not sure on this, but I believe this should be feasable.

What PC system? I would say that there has to be some kind of scripting to make the reading of the files automatic and scrolling thru the contents.

what about having a gofer take cards and upload the shots to the PC and start the show. Could keep circulating cards btw camera and computer. would save lot of cash.

I think if you're running Remote Capture the picture will display as soon as downloaded.

Hi,

I'm currently experimenting with a loaned/borrowed WFT-E1 which works remarkably well.

I have the unit setup to send the files to my mac in a subdirectory of pictures that I named would you believe "WFT-E1".

The unit then creates a subdirectory off that depending on which card you are using Either A or B (I'm using a 1D Mark IIN and a 5D). EG 1DmkIIN creates ...WFT-E1/A/DCIM/100EOS1D and places all the files in there. You can specify whether you do Raw, Jpg or both. (I use Raw) Speed of the wireless network is limited to 54MBPS which is the best, I've had as low as 2MBPS. All images are stored on the card and transfered from there, and you have the option to auto transfer or batch. I've used auto. Any images that fail can be transfered manually ( I haven't had many fail!)

When the image arrives in the folder, I have Bridge (CS2) opened and the images can be previewed there (Does need refreshing from time to time) or EOS capture Utility and they appear as each image arrives. You also have the option of transfering via ethernet but you do have to be plugged in!

I Hope this helps, if you have any specific questions, let me know and I'll endeavour to answer. :)

Hey Adrian,
Does the WFT_E1 require any other electric gizmos to make it work from Canon 1DS MkII to grunty Mac on CS2?

You may have to shout a little louder for Adrian to hear you. He posted his message on the 8th of December 2006

Hi Doug,

The only gizmo required, is a connection to the network. If you are networked, E.G ethernet or wireless, you have pretty much all that is required.

The WFT_E1 does NOT work with the 1D Mark III .

Hope this helps! :)

Anyone know if the new WFT-E2A is backwards compatible with the Mark II and Mark II N?

Don't think so - it connects through a separate port on the 1D III (remember all the posts right after people started getting them about their losing the port cover?).

As Jon says, I'm 99.9% sure the answer is "no" - WFT-E2 for 1D Mark III, WFT-E1 for 1D Mark II, 1D Mark IIN, 1Ds Mark II, 5D, 20D and 30D. The "A" just means it's the North American 11 channel version.

I suspect that we'll see the 1D Mark III style port on other future cameras - along with other innovations, such as the ability to configure a Speedlite from the camera (which only works with the 580EX II - again, I wouldn't be surprised if a future 430EX replacement includes this functionality).

Does anybody actually have the WFT-E2?

I have been told they are not available yet?

I found a link to the "white paper" on the WFT-E2 and it says it exclusively supports the 1D Mark III. Friggin' Canon...make us buy a $1000 device for one camera then turn around and buy another $1000 device when we upgrade our body. Nonsense.

B&H has/had them in and out of stock for a bit. Not sure if anyone actually has and/or uses one on this forum. I'm sure SI has plenty though. :)
