Hi there.
I have a Powershot S45 and want to buy a 256MB CF card. What brands would be appropriate? Being in the UK, I have found the following ones: Canon, Viking, Samsung and Sandisk (among others). Canon itself is pretty expensive while the other three (rather cheaper than Canon) seem to perform well according to the corresponding reviews.
Any idea on how to choose an appropriate brand? What about the type (I/II)? Any other feature to consider?
Cheers,
G.

The Canon brand CF card is actually a Sandisk card with a Canon label slapped on it...
I've had no problems using Sandisk or Viking, but people have told me that the Viking brand is superior.
Enjoy your S45, its a great camera!

I have both Sandisk & Dane-Elec and both worked fine with my S45 and now with my G3.

What's the difference between Type 1 and Type 2? Speed?

I think Canon cameras will only take Type I cards, so I wouldn't worry about it.
I use Crucial (crucial.com/uk) for compact flash cards - a 256MB type I card is £34 including delivery.
The following link might be useful, but just remember - it's easy to get obsessed with figures !
I would imagine you'd actually struggle to tell the difference between these cards in normal use.

No, Size. Type 2 cards are slightly thicker.
