I have bought SanDisk Ultra II CF from ecost.com
http://www.ecost.com with good results. The 256MB Ultra II is around $60US, plus shipping and a per order handling fee. Getting 4 256MB CF is generally quite a bit cheaper than a single 1GB CF.

B&H has a 512 Sandisk for $120 (and a 1 GB for $220). I believe you can also get a 1 GB card from the Costco catalog for $199 (I don't know what brand it is).

Not on a 10D or DRebel you won't.
For some reason thesee Canon cameras take the least advantage of a fast CF card of seemingly any DSLR :(

There is a slight increase (about 15% for the really fast cards) but considering a D2H will give you a 300-400% increase in speed with the fastest cards.. you can see why the 15% that the 10D will utilize is hardly worht it.

I am using one...It's actually my wife's but it winds up on my camera on occasion. I believe that have the 12x ones also for about $14.00 for the 256 model. But as others have said, the difference won't be noticable in the camera, but may help in a USB 2.0 transfer if you use a card reader.

Sunday 2/8/04 OfficeMax ad has Lexar 512 x12 for $100.00 + a $20.00 mail in rebate. I made the purchase & went out to shot a local soccer game and had no problems. It's not the fastest on the market but if you're shooting stills and low action sports it's a great buy. For the high action sports I use my 1gb lexar X40 but that was $260.00 ouch :?

The speed of the Flash card has no bearing on the speed of the camera. You can shoot high action sports or anything else with any speed memory card. The only thing that will affect your shooting is how many pictures you can fit on the card.

If you spend the extra money for the fast cards, and only plan to use them on Canon cameras, you have wasted your money.

Actually, close reading of this article only shows that different cards have different speeds. A 4gb 40x card is actually slower than 12x and non-marked cards. Some 32x cards are slower than some 40x cards. And the difference between 24x and 40x cards is almost imperceptable.

Canon says that the cameras are not designed to take advantage of the higher speed cards.

If you frequently fill your buffer, the write speed makes a difference. The Rob Galbraith link that Vegas supplied is the proof.

This is one of those never ending back and forth debates.. :)

In fact your both correct,. there is some difference,. as the charts clearly indicate,. and as ArthurB points out there is little rhyme or reason to which cardfs will perform better,. so the chart is very helpfull


But the whole story requires us to read how these catrds perform in other cameras.. then we can see how crippled the 10D is,.

A fast Lexar card will perform 5 times faster in a D2H compared to a 10D.. in the 10D the fastest card is about twice as fast as the very slowest card,. but only about 30% faster than the averadge "normal" card, incluidng a MicroDrive.

Whaereas again,. the D2H will give you a 5X spped boost over the slowest cards,. as well as a 4X boost Vs. the FASTEST card in a 10D

To my way of thinking this clearly results in a wasted potential of speed and thus wasted dollars by feeding your low speed 10D nothing but high performance CF cards...

It's like putting Top Fuel and nitro into your chevette. It results in a waste of gas... and very little increase in speed. :)

Yes, if you have a capable Reader you will enjoy the speeds of the card, if not then you wont.

Just do what I do.............watch for deals on Ebay. Ya gotta look and do some checking to make sure you have a reputable person, but, I've had absolutely no problems so far. The first card I received didn't read when I put it in the camera and I immediately e-mailed the person. They just said ship it back and 3 days later I had the replacement in my camera and was happily shooting away. The prices are lower than the big retailers in some cases. It's fun looking for a deal also.
