I think this one works better in B&W than it did in colour.

Something about that image just doesn't look "Right" to me.. Like it's "Fake", a model, or Digital Rendering...

I'm not saying it's bad, just "off" in my eyes...

Wow, I'm a huge Shakespear buff, but I've only seen his house once, in a movie.

Very cool.

GCRollo I did work on the sky a fair bit to make it look more dramatic - perhaps it was too much ?
Here is the original...

I'm not sure.. it may be the How the Highlights are in the scene... Like I said, I'm not saying it's "Wrong" or anything.. Just that it didn't agree w/ my eyes.

You don't have Image Editing on.. Can I take a crack at it?

GCRollo I've put image editing on - your welcome to see what you can do with it, anything is useful to me to help me learn :)

I really like what you did with the contrast and yes it maybe look a bit overdramatic on the right side of the sky...

Nice picture!!

Having been there and knowing what it looks like, I have to say that I like your B&W version... you really make it stand out.

I really like it, I just think that rotating it slightly so that it's straight, would help, and it's a little over-sharpened to my tastes.

goatee I did try to straighten the perspective but because the pathway is on a fairly steep slope I just couldn't get it to look right - evrytime I tried to adjust it it made the right hand side of the house appear even narrower, which then looked odd.
Your welcome to have a go at the perspective if you want :)

There seems to be a large amount of jpg noise in the cloud transitions that I'm finding distracting. It might be better if you got yourself a photobucket (or similar) account and uploaded high-quality jpgs up to them instead of having to degrade your quality to show it here as an attachment.

I like the shot, but can't really comment because it's of low quality and a bit small. As I said, hot-link it from a hosting site and give us the 800x533px version to look at. i'm sure it'll look a whole lot better then.

The color version is far superior and a good image. The black & white lost some of the tonalities that made the color good.

I did as you suggested Pete and uploaded it to Photobucket :)

Is this better ?

That looks much, much better... I think you did just fine w/ your conversion to B/W

I guess it was the noise after all that made it look "odd" to my eye.

Ah - yes, it is tricky - to try and correct it, I rotated by 2.8 degrees, and then used the skew transform to try and correct the vertical - although it's a good excuse to buy a tilt / shift lens ;)

The larger size now looks much better now we have more detail to look at. I thought the perspective of the original looked ok to me. Just needs straightening by making sure the centre vertical is vertical. It's perfectly ok for old building to be a bit on the wonky side.

Not a bad job Goatee although of course now the pathway looks level when in fact the original pathway in Stratford Upon Avon isn't - it actually slopes off to the left quite steeply...which was why I was having so much problem with the perspective in the first place.....i'm now not sure which one I prefer best :)

Thanks - haha, the ever perennial question - to correct, or not to correct :). To be honest, I've never tried doing that before (having only just upgraded from Photoshop 6 which didn't have the skew transform), and I'm not sure which one I prefer. I prefer to do as much as possible in-camera, but not sure with this one. Stratford is one place I've never been - though I've been to the Globe theatre in London where many of his plays were first shown.
