Is there a difference between the Rebel D300 and the Eos 300D? Is it possible to purchase the 300D in Australia without a lens? I have several Eos lenses.

I don't think there's a d300 but only a 300D.

The complete set with lens is mostly referenced as '300D kit'.

And i think it should be possible to buy it without the lens in aus. too.

The Digital Rebel is the US brand of the 300D elsewhere.

Many find the kit lens surprisingly good for the price and focal range. For the extra $100US it's worth it.

And if you ever sell/give the camera away you'll have a lens to sell/give with it, making it a more attactive package.

I'm pretty sure that the EOS 300D is only marketed in Australia as a kit with the lens included. That was certainly the package that I purchased, and the lens (in spite of mine failing after one week and currently undergoing warranty repairs!!!) is good value.

BTW, your existing lenses will work fine, but remember the effect of the smaller sensor on the 300D when compared with a regular 35mm camera. That is, the effective focal length of your existing lenses will be multiplied by 1.6 (I think this is correct).

So the 18-50mm lens will work on the 300D as if were a 28-80 zoom on a 35mm EOS, your 300mm telephoto lens (if you have one) will function as a 480mm telephoto, and so on. Good if you want to increase telephoto power - but a bummer if you're looking for wide angle...

we cant buy it without the kit lens...it comes packaged and there is no way around it....

we also only refer to it as the EOS 300D, the 'rebel' name tag is for the North American market.

i havent had a single problem wiht my camera, and the standard kit lens that came with it has proven to be pariticularly versatile.
