There's always lots of chatter in this group about calibrated workflows. I thought I would pass something on. As a customer of Adorama, I just got an email about a sale on the ColorVision Spyder 2 Pro (http://www.adorama.com/ICVS2P100.html?emailprice=t) Colorimeter suite. In addition to a $60 rebate, they're discounting it an additional $30. I personally don't have this one, I have the Monaco/Optix, so I can't say how good the spyder is. But there are tons of threads here with positive remarks. So the price is right and you have no more excuses not to calibrate! Give it to yourself as a Christmas present! /Dan

Like I said, give it to yourself as a present, but be sure to act surprised when you open it! ;) /dan

If you haven't calibrated your monitor, this may be the best incentive to do so. Once in a lifetime. Offer only till stocks last. blah blah blah :)
On a more serious note, a calibrated monitor is an absolute essential if you're serious about editing your images. And, Spyder 2 does a pretty good job.

I logged on and tried to order but the listed $60 rebate was only $30 when I looked at my shopping cart. There was no mention of an adtitional $30 either.

Here is the link (http://www.adorama.com/ICVS2P100.html?emailprice=t) from the email they sent. In the shopping cart you will see it's discounted $60. Edit: I would call customer service about that. Here is the text from the email ad they sent:
Regular Low Price: $229.95 One week only $199.95 + $60 Rebate = $139.95!
Color correction is the anchor of digital workflow. Which is why pros prefer the Spyder2 for monitor calibration. This award-winner offers the most comprehensive calibration features, period. Using the Spyder2 colorimeter and wizard-drive software, this system is perfect for calibrating CRT, LCD and laptop displays. What’s more, it supports front projector calibration for maximum presentation advantage.
Multiple monitor calibration and matching? Of course! Plus, the Ambient Preciselight feature measures ambient light and balances studio/monitor light accordingly. Topping it all off, the included ColorVision PrintFIX PLUS software gives you the world’s first software-only profiling tool for creating custom printer profiles without a third party scanner. Your color can’t get any better, especially now at $30 off.
I think the shopping cart discount might be on top of the manufacturer's rebate (green link on the shopping cart page). but note the email said one week. the email was dated 12/1 so it is still valid for a day or two more. Hope that helps.

Dan,
Thanks for the update. I just looked and its back up to $199 with the discount.
I'll just have to waite. I am starting an aerial photography business here on Cape Cod and wonder if for this type of work do I really need to have a calibrated monitor...
Thanks again for getting back and have a nice holiday season

Have been using the Spyder for some time now.
What a difference it makes.
A must have.

Spyder2 is great, though the Pro is a bit overkill for most applications. Same colorimeter, 'more' software. Whatever you do, get something. Spyder, Monaco, Macbeth, Huey.
I'm sure this is how other software handles it, but when you calibrate the Spyder gives you a before and after calibration sample. You'll be in awe.
Recently at the Zucker/Tapp tour, Eddie Tapp made everyone in the audience without calibrated monitors stand up and take an oath that they will not adjust colors in their images - ever. :)

Probably good advice. If their uncalibrated monitors are off whack, the color straight out of the camera might be more accurate than when they get their hands on it and muck it up! /Dan

Ugh, I just bought the Spyder 2 about 3 months ago. But it's well worth the money - my pictures finally print right!

There you go! Made a call, got a deal. I don't think others understood that the adorama 199 price was before the $60 rebate. I finally gave up. As a benchmark, B&H currently has it for $199 but that is after the manufacturer's rebate. So the adorama price is 60 bucks cheaper. It's a pretty good price. /Dan
