hello...just got a S3 IS, and have searched for my answer, so forgive me if i am repeating this question...

The lens is 6 - 72mm...28 - 432mm slr eqiv. Sorry, but zooming all the way out does not seem like a 432mm telephoto lens! Does this figure also add the 4x digital zoom? I also have a Pentax me super, which i have used for 10 yrs or so with a 210mm(edit) tele, and this seems pretty close. thanks for any help!

The scaling factor on the S3 to get a 35mm equivalent is x6.
So 6mm = 36mm
and 72mm = 432mm
Your Pentax ME Super is a genuine 35mm camera so no multiplation factor involved simply x1.
The S3 does have a 12:1 optical zoom range and reaches 432mm without using digital zoom. With digital zoom the range is 48:1 reaching from 36mm to 1728mm.
There is a 1.4 factor in width and height compared to a 210mm lens meaning 1.4*1.4=2.0. Perhaps you expected 2x2=4?

Thanks for the re...I can grasp the x6, i guess i need to use the camera more to see that i am getting 432mm tele. It seems that the 210 w/ the pentax brought the subject closer than what i'm getting w/ the 12x zoom...but like i said, i'm still learnig the camera.:)
