This guy was a total suprise... I saw him put the 70-200 + 1.4 on the 1D an just did not have near enough reach. I then angled the 300 2.8L IS with the 2XII out the window and shot him...

All of these shots were taken with the Canon D60 and the EF 300 2.8L IS + 2XII....

There were many other birds that I also captured with my 1D while awaiting this body to arrive...

These shots were "x" out for me, could not see. Sometimes that happens, don't know why. But I'm sure they are terrific! :)

My God! what a beautiful bunch of shots, extraordinary, It's so hard to believe that the 2X II TC and 300 f2.8 could produce results like that, boy what a match. Good work, very crisp, excellent color rendition.

Tripod.. You are talking 1/60 @ 960mm... No chance of handheld shots..

Thanks... I have a Kio pond that attracks them... I have not fed the animals in a year or so so I was pleased to say the least...

First off Eric, congratulations on your new D60.
These are superb shots and a treat to see them.
The first shot of the Rufous-sided Towee, is an amazing good shot, the colour is superb along with sharp focus and detail. And my favourite.
Incredible good close up detail of the female cardinal, my second favourite. Not one bad image amongst them, all excellent, well done.

They are all exceptional with the Towhee getting my vote, closely followed by the Flicker and Cardinal.

All good, but the Towhee is absolutely stunning. I also like how the Flicker is perched on that thin twig. The raptor is either a Sharp-Shinned or Cooper's Hawk.

Very nice series. All look great. It extra special when you don't even have
to go far to get the shots. And as Dan said, the last one is probably a Cooper's
Hawk, but could be a Sharp-Shinned, depending on the tail feathers being rounded
or square.

Terrific photos! Best wishes with your new camera!

A question, would a 300 F 4 with a 2xT.C. have a chance of doing as well as your F 2.8 ? I know it would need more light.

Grerat seris the Flicker is a real standout.

Yes you can but your min f stop would be f8...The 300 2.8 is also a super sharp lens so to say it would be the same, I do not know.

Outstanding shots, my favorite is the Towhee, looks like our spotted towhee.

Those are all excellent, but I especially like the Towhee. They are now called Eastern Towhee and you really caught him well. Also like the Junco, that is quite pale, normally they are darker. The flicker really pops, and I love those spots. I think the hawk is a Sharp-shinned.

With all that great activity right in your backyard, I wonder why you would want to make a trip down here :)...maybe I need to visit your neck of the woods. Great variety and some fine shots there Eric!!! Well done....
