Hi,
I'm a new g2 owner and would like to start getting some accesories for my camera. From some of the posts it seem a good idea to get a mounting tube for filters ect. The only tube I have seen on this forum is the lensmate 49m. There are other tubes on the market that go from the canon 46.5mm to 37,46,52 and 58mm. I also know that the larger tube interfere with the cameras performance. Is the lensmate the best tube for this camera?
Thanks, Vince.

I just got my G2 and decided to try the Tiffen mounting tube. It is black and accepts 43 mm filters. I have a UV filter and the tube on all/most of the time for protection.
The advantages for me were:
1. that it does not block the optical view finder like the Canon adapter does
2. various Cokin adapters and filters will work easily with it (so would other brands)
3. the step up ring from 46 to 49 or 52 is cheap so some of my existing SLR filters will work on the G2
4. Tiffen make a wide angle and a telephoto lens to add to it if you want (I have not heard or seen any tests or comments about the quality of the Tiffen lenses, so . . . )
5. there are various close-up filters you can get with an adapter ring to put on this tube
6. for me, the Lensmate is a web purchase and shipping/customs etc. into Canada although the champagne colour would look nice (the black ring looks OK)
7. it was a store purchase, it was in stock, and I had the money.
Good luck in your efforts!!

There's a slightly biased review of the Lensmate G2 adapter compared to the CANON tube. You can find it here:

Since I have one myself I agree with the reviewer.

There's a less expensive tube that is equally functional.
The sales price is $15 or thereabouts, and the color matches the camera (champagne, brushed metal finish).
