First off let me say hi to you all! I'm a newb to real photography. Always enjoyed clicking off pics of things and places and showing the wife and friends. Now I'm looking to get into it a lil more deeply and maybe one day even sell some prints.

I want to photo everything lol. Specially some sports stuff and landscape stuff. I know these lil things aren't the most capable but I think it's got great flexibility and will be good to learn on. Plus I feel it's something the wife will enjoy as well being as how she's into photography as well, (or atleast wants to be and enjoy's takin shots).

Anywho so I ordered my PS S2 today and 52mm UV filters, Polarized filters, hood, 1GB card, rechargable batts, and 52mm lens adapters from Lensmate. The S2 should be here Friday, and I'd figure the Lensmate stuff to be here next week sometime. I'm dying to get started with this thing and the journeys it shall take me asap :D

Considered buying the "book on S3 Photography" off Ebay today, but figure I'll wait and see what all I can learn here and elsewhere on the web and then maybe get it.

Well, great to find this place and others using these cameras for photography. I look forward to posting my first shots!

Enjoy it!

It's a fine camera. For the money it's a great camera. I'm glad you bought the Lensmate products. They are the best. I bought the Raynox wide angle and telephoto's from lensmate, but found out it was a waste. The long reach on the camera's tele is plenty. The lensmate adapter is good for filters though. I kept my adapter and UV filter on always. I had a second adapter with a polarizer for quick changes.

Also don't waste your money on the "Cheat sheet" on Ebay. I'd pass on the book if I were you. You'll find more info here.

I sold mine recently to upgrade to a Rebel XTi. It's alot more money, after you buy it and a couple of lenses, but in a year or two you may want to upgrade too.

The S2 does have limitations, but not many. Fast action might be alright in good light, but low light indoors might be tricky without flash. Use Av and Tv modes and understand what they can do and can't do. A tripod is a hassle sometimes, but with the S2's lack of ability in low light you'll want to use one for much better results.

Read all the info you can on this site. We have alot of experts here to consult.

Have fun!

I have always wondered why everyone here recommends using either P TV or AV.
Most all my shots are done useing "M" Mode. except for indoors I use SCN and have it set to indoors.
I agree the books would be a waste of time. You can find all the info you need on the web.

Dori most people recommend starting off in P mode until they get a better understanding of how all the settings work in conjuction with each other and then gradually move towards manual. I didn't use Manual at first until I understood what all the other setting would do. I think it's great that you shoot manual, I have to admit that it still intimidates me just a little bit. ;) But for newbies P mode works best.

I prefer using TV or AV on my S2, but will use manual once in a while. Using manual doesn't seem to offer much of an advantage over AV or TV for me. Plus, the camera automatically selects your exposure compensation when in manual mode, so in a way, you're losing manual capabilities when you move to M.
