Alright, it isn't a rumour, or much of a prediction, but what do you think the chances are Canon - or indeed any other camera producer - would create a battery grip (intergrated or otherwise) that:

a.) Is a rechargable battery within itself
b.) Contains a miniture hard-drive
c.) Has Bluetooth/Infra-Red connectivity

I'd dearly love to see one, but I'd reckon Canon would opt out of such an idea purely because of the amount of sales they can make with batteries and single-feature accessories. :(

I can dream, though... right? :D

I especially like the wireless thought - Canon really lags in this area.
The other two are interesting as well - perhaps as an option for the successor to the 30D. . .

Have Fun,

Heck of an idea!

Though I doubt the cameras themself can transfer data through the grip pins. But if they started making the cameras with a female firewire socket then the grip could do just about anything... Backup HD, wireless transfer, build in Pocket Wizard, etc.

a built in Pocket Wizard.. now that would be great! How about a gps chip to automatically record the location of every shot?

And perhaps a built-in laser sight! :D

I love all these ideas, guys - I wish they'd become reality, though. For now I'll have to put up with the BG-E3 I'm hopefully receiving for Christmas, hehe.

A grip with a modular component would be a superb idea. Lets hope Canon do a better job than the awful BG-E2 though.

I don't think that adding more is possible as the communication port in the battery channel is very limited.

Nice idea for the next generation models though.
