i'm sure it's been asked before, but to save the search time...which, if any, is better? do you prefer some other hosting site? why?

thanks!

Save whose time?

Use the search function.... unless you have a specific question to ask..

But if you can't be bothered ;) here's a good thread about smugmug....

obviously, i would like to save MY time, if that's ok with you, and how much more specific do i need to be? it's simple...which one do you like better? elaborate if you want.

btw, thanks for the smugmug thread link. hope it didn't take you too long to post it....;)

there was lots of good info there. clearly people like it. i want to see what people say about shutterfly as well, so maybe when i have more time i'll search that.

what i can't understand is why none of them seem to use paypal....

I was only pulling your leg (well a bit) but your post did come across along the lines of 'I really can't be bothered to do this myself so I'll post a thread and get others to do the leg work for me - suckers!'

Sounds like you are interested more in the aspects of thses sites for selling images....

Because most people use credit or debit cards. Why introduce Paypal into the mix when they charge extra to use their service?

because more and more people DO use paypal. it's easy, especially for an online impulse buy. credit card companies charge a fee as well, and i know that at least with shutterfly, that's part of why they charge us a commision. it's also very easy to get paid. it makes cashing out much simpler.

I fail to see how going through Paypal would simplify anything more than it already is with Smugmug.

I don't see the need for Paypal either but there is a hack for Smugmug that allows you to use it. Check out http://dgrin.com/ that forum is run by Smugmug and there is a lot of good Smugmug info on there. Here is a thread about using Paypal with Smugmug.

I also have a Smugmug account and love their service. Customer service is excellent and your website is very easy to customize.

paypal is way easier than credit cards. no numbers to type in, and no interest to pay! and, when money is paid to you, you just go and hit the "transfer to bank" button and presto! no check to get from the mail box, then go deposit....which if i understand correctly is how smugmug does it.

paypal is genius. that's why ebay bought it.

as for hosting my own...well, i'd love to, but....baby steps. i got no idea how to make my own website.

I can't say why Smugmug is better than Shutterfly. It has to do with what I'm doing with Smugmug. Building my own site for family and customers to visit is something I cannot do with Shutterfly. They're two different sites. If you just want to print your own photos, I can't help you. If you want people to visit your site and print off your photos for themselves, use Smugmug.

If you go with Smugmug, be sure to use a Coupon Code to save on the cost: UuN1kUWDVWsyM
