Hello, recently while browsing the macro thread it hit me that I could reverse my 50mm 1.4 and try a little bit of macro while waiting in anticipation for the 100mm canon macro I will be getting soon. Here was an attempt on subject that will not be readily available after I buy the 100mm macro (money). DOF is razorthin as the lens was wide open (was there some way to stop the aperature down?) but I think I managed to nail the most important focus point in this portrait, the eyes.

Lens was handheld to the sensor and flash was used.

Feel free to share your thoughts, I can't wait for the 100mm macro lens.

Makes an interesting shot with the limited DOF :)
Not sure how much you shut the lens down without getting vignetting when you reverse it but you can do it by setting the aperture with the lens mounted normally, press the dof preview button and take the lens off whilst keeping the button depressed (and the camera turned on).

Detrimental,
Shot is great seeing how you had to hold then lens manually with a shallow DOF :) Like LordV said you can adjust the f/stop by mounting the lens normally ex. set f/8 then press the DOF preview button and take lens off. However it will be much much harder to focus with much less light. When you get your 100 f/2.8 it will be so much easier :)
You can also do the same when you get your 100mm macro by mounting the 50 reversed to the 100mm and get 3:1 macros. I recommend a 58 to 58 ring so you don't hurt the glass :)
Enjoy your new macro :)
