Look for energizer batteries from 2500 mA or 2700 mA. These ore the best you can get IMHO.
Also get a charger that charge the batteries in about 2-3 hours and your set for many years.
Good luck.

Did not want to start a separate thread. QUESTION? Which site do you guys recommend buying AA rechargeables. I have 3 Flashes buying off the rack is not practical. Some website recommendations would be helpful.
Thanks,

I would recommend a charger that charges each cell with a seperate circuit in lieu of by pairs. And a smart charger circuit is preferred.
Powerex makes both a 4 cell and an 8 cell charger; I have the 8 cell and it is fast and excellent.
My experience.

I HIGHLY recommend batteries from www.vapextech.co.uk. I purchased 2700mAh "A" batteries and they do a superb job in both my 550 & 420 flashes. One single set can last me a whole event.
I also purchased their "supercharger", it charges each battery independantly, is fan cooled, and takes 38 minutes to charge a set of four of the above cells.
Each battery costs about £1.00 GBP (which is low cost by OUR standards) [about $2 at todays rates] and the charge was £19.
I purchased from their shop on ebay, which was actualy a little cheaper than their own web-site. I haven't looked but I bet they also have a US equivelant outfit.

I have used both the Energizer 2700+ mAh rechargeables, and the Duracell 2500 mAh rechargeables. Both were charged with the same charger, for the same length of time. The Energizers died long before the Duracells, to my surprise. Now, I have recycled the Energizers, and have the Duracells. I got them on sale, at Circuit City, so I bought 16 of them, at the same time, for like 34 bucks.

I'll have to try the Duracells. I bought the green and silver 2500mah rechargeables and shot an entire wedding with two sets.

Yeah, the Green and black duracells seem to hold their charge longer. I have a wireless mouse and keyboard at home, and the duracells have been going strong, for about 3 weeks now, on one full charge.
The Energizers...well, I would be lucky if I got a whole week out of them.

How are the Duracells with high drain devices, like a 580EX?

I will check that out over the weekend. I have a set charging at home...and will try to make use of the batteries/flash this weekend...with the tree going up and all. Currently, the flash has Ener. E2 lithium batteries in it...and those have been going strong, although they are not rechargeable. I will take them out, and fire off some shots, and let you know how it goes.
Oh, and let me tell you, those wireless keyboard/mice devices are on ALL the time. They never go to 'sleep' per se...so, the batteries are always working. So, I have to give Duracell the win, in this situation.
