Who uses "aperature"?

I just downloaded a free trial and it seems easy and cool but I'm not seeing all of the benefits on top of all that are already on the mac... Can I make a jpg for a story book on there? I don't see an option. I was wondering who uses it and what the benefits are. Thanks in advance.

I have seen several comments here from folks who dislike Aperture. I don't know myself, but if I were you I'd do a search here.

I use Aperture and with the latest relaease it is not too bad.
Recently i have been trailing Adobe Lightroom and my current thinking is that i prefer ligtroom much more than Aperature. Am eagerly awaiting the final relaease of Lightroom.
I think I will be moving to that...

I tried Aperture and it's very very slick ... the way it handles files and rating is great. But I wasn't keen on the resulting images ... I did a direct comparison with Lightroom, specifially with the highlight slider ... Lightroom brought detail back smoothly, while Aperture still left big hot spots.

Lightroom is going to be the king of RAW processors. I'm using it all the time now.

Thanks for all of the comments. Does anyone know about the layout spreads on this program... Can't seem to find them anywhere (except for in the book maker and they are so simple - you can't alter them at all). I wouldn't really use it for enhancing images as I do that in photoshop.

I'm not familiar with most RAW processors. Is Lightroom similar to Adobe Bridge? I'm assuming it's for both Mac's and PC's? Sorry if that's a dumb question.

Its the same engine, but revamped with more features and power.

It also is a editng program, great printing program, makes web pages, organizes, rates and keywords your library, works with photoshop or other external editor, and all the edits are done in the metadata instead of pixel level editing so its non destructive and you can easily go into the history and re edit something. Plus the ability to add your own presets or share with others.

Its still in beta, but will be huge come spring time. It is available for both platforms. It isn't a photoshop competitor, but rather an assistant.

I use it, but I haven't had the chance to try anything else beyond the "lovely" camera software I got with my XT. I really enjoy it. Recently I went on vacation and did a few family sessions. I used my husband's laptop that doesn't support Aperture to PP, and my workflow that I had thought I had perfected before getting Aperture, just using iphoto and PSCS, was terrible, and I found myself getting frustrated easily.

I mostly really like that I can adjust one photo from a set (same lighting, background, etc) and copy my adjustments to the rest of them, I haven't figured out an easier way to do that with PS than to write an action and then have to sit around to make sure to keep things flowing.

See, aperature just seems so similar to iphoto & iweb to me but you have to pay for it. I was under the impression that you could make layouts with borders and colors etc with aperature. Am I wrong?

I've tried to use Aperture a few times but I still find nothing better then Bridge and Photoshop.

i use aperture for the management of all my shoots. i feel it is more of an organizer than a post production tool. i load all my photos into my project folders, adding metadata. i can keep everything so efficiently organized that i never have trouble finding any of my shots. true, it is a pain exporting in order to do production work, but in the end, i feel it is a highly effective tool in organization management.

soon they will be coming out with plugins for aperture, in fact, they are already working on them.

There are features to make an album, smart album, and a book. I haven't even touched that stuff though. Sorry I'm no more help.
