I have seen their release form on another forum, I mean I was stunned they want us to transfer copyright material to them? What are they trying to prove? They have millions themselves not us photographers

They are not doing it for the money. That is just a stupid jump to conclusion. Nor are they tring to prove anything. They do it to try controol public perception and limit images that could be viewed in a negative way. Think National Enquirer type articles. Limiting use etc...etc. is pretty common with "famous" people. True though, not many are as Draconion (SP?) as what they have.

True but it is not as effective. If you dont own the rights to the image. You dont really have any say over how they are used if there is no contract involved. The same way only the image owner can send a DMCA notice. The only way other than owning the rights is to sue for other reasons. And that costs more... and has undependable results as the case may go against them.

What will Coldplay do on stage that would ever land one of my photos in the National Enquirer? Their stage show is pretty much scripted at this point. Any off the cuff actions they do would never be bad enough to land them in the enquirer and if they did, one of the 10k people with cell phones will capture it anyway.

Yeah The Alpines were playing when I was there, but I didn't have time to get there for that. I don't finish my day job until 6pm and I only just got there in time for The Horrors. Shot the first three songs from the pit and the rest from the lighting desk for both The Horrors and Florence. That was a looooong day, I'd worked 16 hours by the time I got to bed. Phew!

I shot KoRn last night then got told off from my assignment editor because my shots were dark and you couldn't see their faces. Well yes, the lighting was very subdued and, with them being metallers, they've all got long hair that they tend to hang over their faces and stare at the ground, so no one could see their faces! Seriously, what do they want me to do about that?

Anyway, tonight I'm shooting Steel Panther and on Saturday it's Joe Bonamassa.

I thought that would be at least understandable that they performed in the dark and that you couldn't get a decent exposure, at least I got to thank the publicist for not giving me the gig, lol

why would you think that? just do an image search (Flicker, Web, or agencies) and you'll get a pretty accurate picture of what to expect (venue-depending at times, as well).

every band is different, there is no set template for 'good lighting' (aside from mega-pop stars).

I got lots of silhouettes and small pinpoints of light picking out details, but they're no good from a commercial point of view as it's not exactly clear who they are. You were in the pit with Steve Gerrard. A guy I DJed with in the past who is now a pretty big photographer in the UK. He had linked up his set on Facebook this morning and I had checked them out. My first reaction was that he had great light to deal with.

Looking at his photo and yours, it's like you 2 shot different shows. The lighting looks totally different.

To be honest I never usually notice the other photographers as my eye is permanently glued to my eyepiece :-P No, flash is not allowed, but his images are a lot better than mine. I can only assume he has a superior camera body to my 40D. Only goes up to ISO 1600 and I often struggle with slow shutter speeds. Yes, I am saving up for something better. Do you know what Steve uses?

My 40D does up to 3200 (or H 'high' as they label it). And yeah noise is an issue, but I've just accepted the fact that I need it sometimes. Also (and this might be just my imagination) I think that raw conversion has become better over time and I think my ISO3200 look better now than when I first got the cam. Noisy image is still better than no image/extremely dark image.

outer points lock *much* faster than the 5D2 (which didn't lock all that often, depending on the situation).

i definitely need to play around w/ the different cases of AF options, and you can adjust sensitivities as well. haven't really done that yet.

i know you have no pit tonight, but Terminal 5 had the most crowded pit I have ever seen for that show the other night. At least 15 photographers. Great light though.
