I'm going through withdrawal right now. Nothing on the immediate radar until a possible Levon Helm show next weekend.
one of those shows he hosts in his barn? that would be awesome.

I agree, that would be awesome. Actually this would be at what I think is the premier shed in the US; the new facility at Bethel Woods sight of the original Woodstock. It's not his home, but it is his neighborhood. If that comes through, then we can work on one of his Rambles. And just as an aside, I saw him at the Beacon Theater in NYC a few months ago and he hasn't missed a beat since the heyday of The Band. Amazing show.

Might be shooting genesis this weekend. Most likely on Sunday in London. Could possibly be shooting them already tomorrow in Manchester. If not there is a minuscule chance I could be shooting steely dan tomorrow in London. Even smaller chance I get part of live earth. I have no idea. All I know is that I'm on a train to London now running up the data plan on the blackberry.

Live Earth here in NJ is supposed to have a few surprises and they are begging for people to show up. Even credentials are wide open if you have previous work to show you are a working tog. Unfortunately, with the live video being done and video alway having preference at such things, I have no desire to shoot from a distance with big glass. 400mm would be a starting point tomorrow.
Hopefully you will have better conditions if you do the London show.

Yeah, well... I didn't get to do it. Nor Genesis in Manchester. Pending for Genesis tomorrow. Still waiting to hear about Steely Dan. Might just go hit that Canadian bar on Trafalgar and down some Canadian beer. London (UK) is boiling.
I did get to play with a 17-55 IS and a 70-300 IS last night. Yum!

Good luck everybody, with your scheduled events... I hope you get in and close enough to capture some face shots...
The rest of this weekend and next week, I'll continue to take photos inside my community development... Primarily, I take photos of everything related to recreation, entertainment and amenities usage, landscape and even the flaura and fauna...
I'm still processing three bands from the previous week...
Friday, I'll be up close with my 70-200mm 2.8L IS and the 24-70mm to capture - "Southside Johnny and The Asbury Jukes"... A few days later, you will be able to enjoy 5+ hours of Southside Johnny, "Live" on the "YES" channel, (same as last year).
(Also, I have been very busy this month working on the walkway around my house... Leveling the steps to the upstairs deck, is also a big job, and I got lucky lifting the supportive concrete slab, soooo I can't stop now...Gotta keep going while the going is good... Not to mention spraying the fruit and flowering trees from bugs, etc., etc.) .............

Have fun with Southside, John. Southside can be hot or cold with photographers but if he's gruff with you, it's all part of his stage persona and if you give back with a smile all should be well. Bobby Bandiera, Richie "LaBamba" Rosenberg, Mark "The Love Man" Pender and Eddie Manion will all work with you if they see you shooting...they are all full-on extroverts and a lot of fun. I'm actually a bit jealous because I have never been able to shoot them...yet.
As for the other stuff, I know all about that stuff...damn property/home upkeep.

They usually post photos on their web site from each show taken by one of their crew...
Last year I photographed them with my brand new 30D and a 50mm f1.4 prime... They used 16 of my pics, and let me work a deal out with the venue to photograph them again this year... (My local venue, Penn's Peak, owns a daily regional newspaper and normally use their staff pro photographers when needed...)
Southside was really mellow last year, and didn't mind my camera... Wait till he sees the white 70-200... I'll probably start out with the 24-70, to ease onto the scene... They (their management) know I'll be taking pics with my new pro lenses... But does Southside? We'll see... it should be OK, cause I'll be real descrete...
I'll know more after this upcoming show...

Geez, Narlus, you're behinder than I am! I am shooting Lynyrd Skynyrd on Thursday night. I have heard about them for years and years (every guitar player I know says they are one of their heroes.) I guess I'll find out what Southern Rock is. I have Credence Clearwater Revisited in the pipeline and should be on my website by the weekend.

Okay: For this weekend I've been asked to shoot 'Plork en de Aannemers' (http://www.plorkendeaannemers.nl/) ("Plork and the Contracters" I think) at De zwarte cross (http://www.zwartecross.nl/) (Black ('illegal') Cross; it started off as a motor cross event with some music ;)) for a DvD inlay....
Not sure if I'm looking forward or not.

Tonite, I'm going to Roadie's Restaurant upstairs at Penn's Peak... There will be an outside deck party and Craig Thatcher Band will be playing... Got the OK to use my "L" glass again... There is a 30% chance of rain and thunder... Wonder if I should bring my Circular Polarizer filter... The music will start at 6:30PM...

Big change of plans for me. I have been asked to shoot George Thorogood tonight in another city about 45 minutes away for me. It's an outside show so I may be able to make it back to town to catch Sass Jordan going on stage for midnight. Being outside they are generally over by 11pm. Tough rules though. I only get the first 2 songs, and still no word on if I can shoot from the seats or about the two opening acts. I am permitted to stay and enjoy the show though. I am disapointed I will not have any L glass to take with me, not enough time to arrnage it. Unless anyone in the Kingston Ontario area has a 70-200 L 2.8 they want to rent me for the night? :-)

I'm going to bugger off home to my paents for 10 days. Haven't seen them in 3 years. Flying out to Sweden on friday. I need a vacation like I need fresh air. I will have plenty of it out where they live as it's smack in the middle of a forest.
Next day (Saturday) mom and I will head off to Norway (Oslo) as we are both Saga fans. I'm hoping to shoot them.
I'll also be shooting horses, cats, dogs, family, buildings, trees. Might even go wildlife shooting in the hunting posts one morning. This means I'll start posting in other sections of this site.
Anyway - Internet will be limited unless I go visit my old job (might do) and do some work from the office there.
Better get myself in gear. Got loads to do.

Boris are popular w/ noise/metal/doom/drone kids...here's a quick recap:
boris are a 3 piece from japan who i shot last summer, amazing show. they released a fantastic record called _Rainbow_ this year, w/ Kurihara on guitar. He's in two other bands (White Heaven; Ghost) and has also played and recorded w/ Damon and Naomi. they were originally in Galaxie 500, but after Dean Wareham split to form Luna, they continued playing and recording together (much more folky, not heavy at all). they also run a small publishing company called Exact Change.
looks like you've got a couple of dates fairly near you:
10-14 San Francisco, CA - The Independent
10-15 Los Angeles, CA - Echoplex
step out of your casino comfort zone and shoot the show!!!

Well, you know, I keep admitting it, but until I got the casino gig 2-1/2 years ago almost everything was Pro Bono, but when I discovered that what I did was worth some fair change my whole perspective changed. Now I charge a reasonable price and have more work than I can seem to keep up with. Just got a note from a PR outfit doing a brochure for Wolf Trap who are considering some of my Steve Miller images. I get these about once a month and about half make me a deal and send me a check. I'm not a big music person so I don't go to concerts for entertainment very often ... I like plays and orchestral things maybe with a string or brass quartet thrown in from time to time although I have seen the L.A. Guitar Quartet twice ... both times here in the valley.

I have to admit the same thing.....
The #1 reason you don't see me posting stuff in this section anymore is if it is not paying me or leading to a pay day then the camera stays in the bag.
I've got plenty of work as well as the publisher I work for and I agreed to scale back my "other" responsibilities and go after commercial photography work with both guns blazing.

No, it is the publisher of the magazine I work for.
Shooting has now become a "full-time" venture, it makes it less exciting to go hang out at a smokey bar with poor lights and then having to come home and process a bunch of images for free......
I actually did get some shots last night of a real up and coming artist. I'll go through them today and post a few.

Got a dilemma... The band "Tequila Sunrise" said back in May, they will have my Creds. ready in time for an August 25th show.
The venue said I could use my Canon 70-200mm f2.8L IS and 24-70mm zooms for the entire show, but I can't use flash... And that they are certain "Tequila Sunrise" will remember to get me the Creds.
Now the venue is also shooting a "video" of the entire show...
I hate to be a nag....Should I follow up with the band on Monday to see if my Creds. will be ready? They already have a slide show of my pics on their web site...
I'm also in a dilemma because lately, I've got some serious issues with my knees... My "Arthroscopic Knee Surgeon" wants me to start therapy ASAP, cause I've got some problems standing up or walking up or down steps... (Just some arthritis and excessive wear and tear from sports from my younger years).
I'm tempted not to do anything, and just stay home... But it would be good to get out and enjoy the camaraderie at the venue... I'm still undecided... Any one willing to offer some encouragement?

Pop some Advil, and GO. If you are like me, after you get there, and start shooting and listening to the show, you will be glad you went.
I'm shooting at a local fair here in TX all week. Texas based bands / artists, that I am friends with most of them. No money, but the fair board wants to see my stuff, so maybe it can work into a PAID gig in the future.
Got my 30D and the 10-22mm last week. Also finally loaded the DPP in my computer, and now shooting RAW is so much easier. But the 30D feels just different enough from my 10D, that I've felt like a newbie:D

Pop some Advil, and GO. If you are like me, after you get there, and start shooting and listening to the show, you will be glad you went.
Thanks for the encouragement Jonni...
I actually did what you said, reminding me to resort to my medication... I took one prescription pill Tuesday, and here it is Friday nite and things are still much, much better...
Wrote a follow up email to Tequila Sunrise regarding tomorrow night's show... Totally, to my surprise... they still have not responded... In the mean time, they are happily using several dozen of my photos all over their web site... ( I'm convinced that they fear a conflict with the venue).. The venue will be video taping the show for them... Although the venue said I could shoot the show, apparently someone else up there has reservations...
Saturday morning is a big local parade, with all of our local fire department trucks and over 100 classic autos following a brand new fire truck that we got... I'll go there to take pictures...
92 degrees, hot and humid...
Today,
I got two leads to photograph a friend's son's wedding and another to photograph new home construction...Hope to do all of that this fall...

Starting last week on Friday I was at a local fair, shooting 6 out of 7 nights. I've shot at this fair for a few years, just for my own amusement, and to post on line, and because I love all the bands. This year, I went to the office and asked for a pass to the fair, and got that, and a parking pass, and I gave them some images. They pay a photographer each year, so I plan to make sure that is ME next year. All local Texas based bands/artists. Indie / country. Stoney Larue, Tommy Alverson, Mark David Manders, Max Stalling, Jason Boland, and Cory Morrow. (I bet no one has heard of any of these guys, eh?) I'm whooped from that many somewhat late nights in a row, but had a great time, and played with the new to me 30D and the 10-22 lens that I got through here a couple weeks ago. Also using DPP to go through the photos each AM. (that too, is new to me)
So I'm not shooting anyone this weekend!

I've been offered a lot of money for a wedding in October... It's not finalized, but they came to me, so I have to give it some consideration...
My next show on schedule is "Three Dog Night" in November...
I'm skipping a dozen gigs till the last minute...
I've shot more than 70 shows in just this past year, and it's catching up to me... Gotta put some time and effort into my garden and yard, before the winter...
The PA is all your's Dwight... Don't let your guard down, or some one will try to sneak in try to claim your "top spot"...
As soon as the "sky cam" is back up at Penn's Peak, I'll add it to my sig...
Also my "doe & fawn" pic on regional/national TV is supposed to be featured around this labor day weekend... I'll put that in some "crazy/jazzy" color lettering to at least draw some interest to it...

The Stooges show is pretty well choreographed - pretty much the same set list, same moves, same time for audience invasion of the stage or for Iggy to make a crowd excursion. I'd suggest tracking down a live DVD so you know what to expect.
