richard, motorhead concert wasn't too bad..I missed airbourne but got rose and motor.. Rose tattoo was a much better band than i ever thought..some kickin rock and roll, pretty easy to shoot same with goes with motor..My main source of light was red and blue lights but just before the dredded "3songs only" rule came into play white lights were used ;)

Thanks German - the Tatts do kick arse (clients of mine) Airbourne are great fun and great to shoot, can be guaranteed some good shots. Motorhead I can't wait! Manson I don't really care about musically but should get some good shots.

Hey, Narlus, that's neat! Maybe he'll swing out my way although I haven't seen him on this year's schedule yet ... although it changes and evolves continuously.

I had boxing this week. Showtime licensed my images in addition to the normal casino contract so if they actually send the check I will have had a big weekend. Had one other place ask for images, unable to provide contact information until 3:00 am, no pay, I sent images before deadline and asked them to let me know if they wanted something else or different, then they sent me a blistering email that was bcc'd to many others about the crappy images they got and they were late (they weren't as above) and that they had a whole stable of great photographers at FightWireImages ... unknowing that I am a charter member of that wire service. One of my fellow 'togs sent me his reply to the guy with the original email and bcc'd addresses while telling him my pictures were good, unique and what's the problem? I sent a very rational response pointing out gently that every issue he had was either of his own making or would have been resolved if he had just gotten back to me.

I then had the opportunity to shoot Hotel California Eagles Tribute Band (http://www.hotelcal.com/index2.php) on Saturday at the casino ... they were excellent but I am still having trouble with letting go of being bullied. I'd have thought I was hardened to bad treatment by now. :rolleyes:

well the rules were a bit more restrictive than usual...1st two songs (but at least for both the acoustic and electric set), but you couldn't get up close and had to shoot from back on the far wings, or up from the balcony. i should have thrown my 1.4x tele in the bag...

no close ups even w/ a 200mm on a 1.6 crop, but good enough i am thinking! the lighting for the acoustic set was tough, and he was sitting in a circle of guitars, so neck/headstock interference was a pain. the electric set lighting was much better (and i'd moved to the ramp (takes you from the lobby to the orchestra seating, and was a much better head-on vantage point) for some shots too, after i'd seen the boston globe guy shoot from there.

still buzzing about last night's show. incredible!

Yes, I assure you that having the baubles plays a vast second place to having the access. But as your story (and some of mine) point out, it is who you know, not what you know that gets you around and on the mat in the entertainment industries. I have the baubles but if my connections don't connect, I am sitting at home twiddling my thumbs. The up side is that I am continuously making new connections ... I think that just about the time I expire permanently I will have adequate networking to make a living at this. :cry:

i'm taking the night off tonight. we're going to see charles walker and the dynamites, but i'm taking the flask instead of the camera. charles walker is an old chess records artist and my wife describes it as a mix between james brown and al green. it's a funky good time.
tomorrow night i am gonna take the camera out to the variety playhouse for a local band, outformation. these guys have been gaining ground fast with national tours, so this home town show should be a good showing.

No luck so far... My local venue is still renovating everything except the seating arrangement.(not adding any new seats.) Last year we had 110 shows... My older brother lives in Burlington! I haven't been there in about 30 years. I will not recommend you get in touch with him ... he is a crazy old retired sociology professor from UVM. But his wife (also a UVM sociology professor) and six children of color and foster kids are mostly OK! :-)

tonight, no photo pass, but i will be going to see John Zorn. bummed about the lack of a pass (was told no photos were allowed at all, hopefully that's true and i didn't get the run-around), but i am very excited about seeing the performance tonight. he rarely plays boston (it's probably been about 10-11 years).

next week i'm going to robert plant and alison krauss with no photo pass :(, but i am lined up to shoot santana the next weekend (with derek trucks opening!)

last night's Zorn performance was outstanding as predicted, but due to unforeseen events (solo pianist, and the cellist for the string trio both couldn't make it), he actually played (w/ cohen on bass and wolleson on drums) rather than just conducted. this meant not securing a pass was doubly painful.
