i can't figure it out...i already had my ticket (my wife really wanted to go to this, so i got one as well), and there's no photo pit in the club...could the management agency really want to turn down free publicity? i guess the answer is yes.

on the plus side, i did get a confirmation for Mogwai in a few weeks' time.

Looking forward to seeing the Mogwai shots, I am a big fan, of course they will never come to NZ.

This weekend I finish up my year long project with Bruce Springsteen at the 105th Harley Davidson birthday bash in Milwaukee, WI. 11 months on and off the road...yowza. hi folks, you may remember i posted a thread a while ago about getting accreditation to shoot The Breeders here in Adelaide by offering it for free as I had already bought tickets and just needed the proper credentials to get my gear into the venue? well, anyway this time around i hooked up the deal BEFORE buying tickets and tonight i am shooting the amazing Rocket Science on the same deal - no payment but free ticket plus 1 to the show. it also happens to be my birthday tomorrow and my good mate from sydney will be in town and a free gig should start the celebrations off nicely!

Nice to see some of our local talent is known outside our shores. I saw Bill Direen play a couple of months back and he is apparently releasing a new LP. I was talking to Chris Knox at a Clean gig in June and he wasn't planning on gigging much at all.

Funnily enough I saw your post on the Bailterspace MySpace the other day baout coming to Boston, It would be nice of they came and played here as well :)

Well, here's my story... I take pictures at one local venue... None, this coming weekend scheduled by me.

This popular local venue, uses my pictures in their marketing...

Since the parent company owns the regional cable network... are the regional internet providers... own two regional TV stations... are pioneers in the fiber optic cable industry... own the venue... own an internet 24/7 radio station, and own the regional daily newspaper (including a full staff of photographers,) I don't get to do much.

This summer, the venue *event schedule*, features my photos as the background for the poster and publication ads. Some of their web sites feature my pics... Their venue restaurant features my pics on the first page of the menu...

Since I'm retired, I'll continue to take occasional pictures at the venue at shows of my choosing...

Right now I'm taking it easy cause in October, my promotion, with a local resort and indoor water park will start... Who knows what this new (one year long) promotion (with 100 stores) will generate.

You're right Narlus... I'm pondering my alternatives... I just got my new business name and tax # from the state... Am waiting to see what the local resort promotion generates from the regional promotion campaign... If it's slow, I'll pursue other avenues... ( I got a small supermarket to display 12 - 16 x 20 framed prints for sale)... Right now, things are slow here in the Poconos. I like the idea of pursuing other media ventures... We'll see.

1D mk II, 28-70L, 85mm F1.8. Did a few with the 16-35L aswell but that might just be the very first photo of the support, didn't use that one with Jeff Martin.

My 85mm needs to be calibrated (not as sharp as it needs to be anymore), but that's what I used for the closer shots (def needed it). With your 5D (full frame) I'd suggest to bring something else than 24-70 for closer shots....

Ah, yes, this is not uncommon. A few weeks ago the togs from Cal Sports & Entertainment who shot often at the casino were in the Samala Room with their cameras and media wrist bands (issued by the casino) when our talent buyer and the tour manager (from an unnamed group) came to me and asked who they were. Tour manager says he was not advised they were coming and they cannot shoot. They look at me and it is clear they want me to tell the togs that they're out of luck. I go over and tell them. It is clearly the casino's PR person's fault. They even have the email in hand. My boss wanders by and I ask if he can intercede for them (I like them) and he tries but is told it must be approved by "corporate" which, ten minutes before the show, is not possible.

OTOH, I've had just the opposite sort of thing happen, too, where a tog has talked his way "in" with a tour manager after being refused. Just goes to show that every act is different.

Last weekend I had Georgie Fame and Courtney Pine amongst others (Jazz Festival). Next weekend I'm going to see Tangerine Dream in London (no pics, just for pleasure) and the following weekend after that I have the Cork City Ballet at the opera house here, followed by Herbie Hancock during the week that follows. Also the final of the regional Teen Idol auditions.

They own the local newspaper, and lots of media companies around here in NE PA, and have lots of photogs that they have to pay (they pay them very little)... However, assignments at the venue are given to a sportswriter who only takes one pic with a flash for his article, and then he leaves... They have to make special arrangements with their other companies, to send a photog. on special assignment to the venue... They rarely ever do it. I'm the only one around on a regular basis with a good camera...

I've already worked a bunch of shows with arrangements made through the bands and promoters... I still have an open channel of communication with those same bands... However, most of the shows scheduled so far into next year are small, new tribute bands, or bands that I have photographed before... And I'm just not in the mood to write letters and follow up letters for a chance to take pictures... Unless I really like the act, I'm just going to take it easy.

The current economy primarily factors into their ability to book big, expensive acts, and to generate an audience show factor...

However, regarding their ability to pay me... I'm wondering If they just are being thrifty in these tight times...

I'm in no rush... Right now I need to focus my efforts at a local resort... I met the CEO the other day, and he's interested in my work.

I'm French, never been there before, seems like a nice nice venue, I hope I can get good pictures and won't be too impressed...

Any advices or comments on this specific venue are welcomed, I'm a bit impressed already...

Unsilent Night in Plano, TX on Sunday.. 35 bands, some relatively big names like Forever the Sickest Kids, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Craig Owens, Norma Jean. Never shot outside of local clubs before, so I'm pretty excited.
