It was just a long exposure shot. The cruise ship in the background just happened to be pulling out. I got lucky!

Ohh, I was wondering because the guy didn't seem to move at all but the ship moved a pretty long distance. You really were lucky!

Is the last picture the road right next to the airport?
I figured a great place to go is next to the airport, next to the Dollar Rent-A-Car, the planes come right over the top of it. You could find some good places to get some landing shots, if interested.

yup right off Harbor! I thought about trying to get some landing shots...but as you can see I've only been able to shoot in the evenings . But I'll definitely try that when I can be there in daylight!!

Careful when taking shots at an airport. Sorry to say, but the new crack down on terrorism makes any shot like that suspect And if they see you standing around with a camera, taking shots of aircraft taking off or landing, you could get some heat.

oh wow..didn't even think about that. Guess that goes for federal buildings downtown as well eh?

Unfortunately, yes. Train stations, any major transportation hub, Civil office buildings, Cop stations, etc. It's a bummer because where I live, there are some really nice old buildings that are still operational as county offices and such, but we're told that it's not a good idea to shoot them.
Sometimes you can go to a police station or a sheriff's office and ask what is permissible, and what is a no-no. If you catch someone in a good mood, they'll give you a pretty good idea.
Such are the times in which we live, sadly.

These two shots were taken from the Dollar Rent-A-Car parking lot while we waited for our car. They were both taken at 75mm so you can get an appreciation of just how close the jets are. There are a lot of overhead electrical wires around that area so its hard to get a clean shot. San Diego sure is a beautiful city.

Thanks, I love those shots. I have flown into San Diego many times to visit my daughter at UCSD. We most often rent there at Dollar and those planes really come close. My daughter and her boyfriend told me they tried to go on top of the building just behind Dollar but were kicked off by security, which makes sense, you could throw baseballs into the plane's engines from there. Unfortunately, I wasn't into photography until recently, or I'd have a couple of shots like those, maybe not as good those as yours. Thanks for sharing.
Merry Christmas.

everything about San Diego is prime for good exposures. I wish I had a few days to spend there. Nice shots.
