The swiss parliament is getting a thorough renovation... seen from the same location as the shot "Morning has broken (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?p=2373393)", on the same foggy morning.

I know its not funny, but this leads me to believe the swiss parliament works in a shack. Other than the description I really like the image.

Thank you for your comments. Ah... titles always are a PITA. If I chose one, some won't like it, if I don't some complain about the lack of a decent title. :D
Anyway, the shot was taken because I thought the scene is special, and not to transport a certain political message...

It's a very nice image. I didn't mean to offend you. To me the building in between the cranes does not look very large. That's all. Nothing political intended.

No offense taken, Elton. I just noticed that the shot in combination with the title might seem to make a political statment - and I this wasn't the plan when I took the shot. To me, the scene just was appealing. It could have been any building...
thanks & cheers

Once again, your image making ROCKS! It is astonishing how you can see, then execute such perfectly composed images. In American baseball, the major league batters can see 100 Mile Per Hour pitches... really see them. The can see the lacing on the ball as it travels to their bats. Of the hundreds of thousands who play the game sometime in their lives, only a few hundred can actually develop enough skill to become major leaguers.
You have a similar reflex control with respect to image making. It can be coached but not learned. Thanks again for sharing.

Thank you, Ted. Nice to meet you here...
I fear this kind of pictures doesn't find very many admirers - it might be a bit outside the expected, the common and accepted... but then, it's about the beauty of the world, not the likings of the masses, isn't it? The world can be such a nice place (sometimes).

OK I am going to jump off here.
I hate it I hate it I hate it. Ohter than that I love it. What time of day was this shot taken? It looks to be about 9 or so the way the sun is showing through the fog.

I like the colors. Can someone explain to me what makes it a great image?

The only thing that I could say would be there personal taste. Its just how it makes them feel when they look at it.

Ja ist es sehr schön. Ich mag die Weise, die der Nebel um das Gebäude und die Kräne aufwickelt. Die Sonne, die durch das Nebelgeben gerade genügend Licht zeigt.

Well... it's the same thing that makes maybe a sharp shot of a eagle a great image to some of the viewers, while others won't enjoy the shot at all. To me, as the photographer of this shot, it was the mood that light and fog was creating. The composition with the cranes adds quite a bit, and overall it's a shot of a scene that manages to fascinate me, even now that it is two dimensional...

Fair enough! But you have a connection to it on a level the average view can not achieve - you were there and took it. Two responses to my question speak of a visceral response rather than a geometric response pointing out the rule of thirds or the golden mean (neither of which is evident in this image IMO). I liked the shot too and would have no problem hanging it on my wall - evidently my response was also visceral rather than technical. It's a dimension of art that is tough to explain and I was hoping someone could point out a 'real' reason.
BTW - I didn't make the initial connection but just checked some of your other work. I like much of it but don't understand some of your images.

In a word - WOW
Not sure wow is really a word but thats what I thought as soon as I saw this shot. And still think the same after looking at it for five minutes.
Absolutely superb I love the 'mood' of this picture and would hang it on my wall

welcome to the club! Me neither understands some of my images... from a technical viewpoint. :) I simply think all the (photographic) rules of the world will not help to always find a definite answer as to why some shots work and some won't. After all, looking and interpreting what you saw is so individual that no rule ever will provide answers to what happened in your mind after you saw what can be seen on a photo. I very often follow my own feeling instead of fixed rules, and then verify the concept my feeling brought me to against some of the rules I know. I'm not constructing the images along the rules.
