So I placed an order for "Lisa II" (or III, or IV, depends how one is counting:rolleyes: ) way before they opened this morning. Paid $100 to have it shipped UPS Express in hope to get it on Tuesday.
Well, it has not been shipped today ! Perhaps because they were too damn busy shipping backordered cheap P.O.S. (Peace of Softness) 50 f/1.2 all day.
So, now it will be Wednesday.:(

Well on Fridays they wrap it up around 1:00 p.m. They usually manage to get all express orders out on the road before then.

Oh brother, that's hard to believe. I'd sooner forget about Jennifer, get your money back and find yourself another consort.

Patience is a virtue!
You don't need this lens by Tuesday. Just focus on your various macro endeavors and you'll be entertained until Christmas!

Oh whoa wait...so you sent back the sharper non-IS version for a new, much more expensive she-man IS lens?

Theoretically, "Lisa I" should have been sharp(er), but she was not. She was also front focusing. I think she required work which I was not prepared to undertake at my additional expense.
Unfortunately, that sorta situation has left me without any options other than getting a lens which is fully supported/warrantied by Canon. The IS on it is a waste, I know, because much of the time it will be turned off unless I am using the lens with the TCs.

Oh its not that so much, it's the shipping fee that irks me.......one pays for that express thing in order to have it leave the seller pronto, not 3 days later.

If I pay for ground from B&H, I get 2nd day. If I pay for 2nd day, I get overnight. If I pay for overnight, it's here around 8:30AM the next day.

i never pay for expedited shipping, things just don't seem to ship fast enough from the easy coast for it to matter out west.

She'll be here, she just better be treated well by the "geniuses" at Canada Customs. Because they must think I am a terrorist, they are opening every single parcel I get from the USA. If Paypal and a Credit Card allowed it, I would have my parchels sent to my Sisters house, brothers house, etc just to throw them off. Sigh but I cant. The lesson for me is DONT BE CHEAP! Pay the extra 11 bucks for Global Express or go through UPS.

Okay, so what is the excuse for this IS? Are you going to Red Green the IS on this one also? I am really starting to worry about you. Next thing we know you are actually going to start using that IS then it is just a short trip from liking it.;) :D

I should have known there'd be a Red Green following on POTN. Next thing you know, Peter will be photographing his own version of Adventures with Bill...

BTW, in the spirit of giving our lenses names, and because B&H lists the 50 f/1.2L as a 'normal' lens, I'm going to call her Norma L. The red L is optional.

That's very clever, Tom.:D
B&H showed the lens as 'In stock" for about several hours yesterday, and they sent notices around to that effect. Then, it reverted to "out of stock".
Looks like they were alloted an "initial" smaller inventory and/or the demand exceeded the expectations by far.

Petkal..
Did you ever check the filter compartment on your ex?
It was supposed to have a clear or UV filter in there for optimal performance.. I was just reading something about the lack of a filter degrading performance (so much for the "I don't use filters" crowd :p)
PetKal

The "Lisa I" had a Canon's very own 1.0X transmissivity filter in the drop-in holder. However, that whole issue of the lens optical design and drop-in clear filters for supertelephotos is a bit of a mistery to me. There is one fuction of the filter I can clearly grasp....it provides a dust barrier for the rear lens element which is quite awkward to clean on its own.
Equally baffling is the absence of a dust cap for the lens front. Sometimes Canon's ways of practical engineering thinking, or lack thereof, are hard to fathom.

Dust cap - you should have gotten the leather 'hood hat' that comes with it. Oh well, at least we know it was not the lack of the glass element causing the problems you experienced.

Pardon me ?
What is "Lisa II" ?
What is "Lisa I" ?
Where's that "Lens-Names -> Nick-Names" dictionary posted ?
What the Nick for an old (Mark-I) 85 f/1.2 L ? "Fatzo" ? "The-Big-Fat-Lady" ?

Welcome back, Roli.
"Lisa I" is a copy of the old EF 300 f/2.8 I had for a few days and then returned.
"Lisa II" is the successor....a new (current) IS version of the lens.
The reason for "Lisa" nickname ? Well, a POTN member Lisa brought "Lisa I" sale to my attention, so that was a way of thanking her for her thoughtfulness, even though it did not work out as intended.

you spent 100 on overnight shipping? And I'm guessing there wasn't a pressing need other than desire.
I know of some good charities that could use some financing ;)

WOW you guys are lucky. I know I am not in the States but, B&H usually does good on shiping, I have received things in Baghdad around 6 days after order, and the is the cheap way. But now the Holidays are here, it takes about 3 to 4 weeks to get here. Personally I rather be back in the states and have it take an extra day or 2 but that is not an option. Point being we just need to make the best of our situation and suck it up, and know it will be here when I gets here.

Right on dood, the important thing is you'll be home in less than two months.
Needless to say, keep your eyes wide open, ears to the ground....no detail is insignificant...... what eye catches details better than the eye of a photographer.;)
